Week Three and Four

The Preps, Grade Ones and Grade Twos looked at the processes involved in growing vegetables. They got out into the vegetable garden, planting tomatoes, sunflowers and pak choi. They did a wonderful job of removing pests that might otherwise eat out plants. They also looked further at the important role food plays in celebrations and learned about the Festival of Diwali.

The Grade Threes and Fours got their hands dirty in the garden. They prepared the soil, planted spring onions and onions that they had grown from scraps. They also planted lettuce and pak choi seedlings, and they watered and weeded. ACPS definitely has some wonderful gardeners! They learned about how food plays a central role in many celebrations and took a look at the festival of lights that is Diwali. They also tried their hand at designing rangoli decorations. The students also had a go using VR goggles to experience a simulation of the Yukon Striker roller coaster in Canada.

The Grade Fives practised their farming skills and took on the mammoth task of weeding the chicken house and the surrounding vegetable garden area in preparation for growing lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. They planted parsley, tomatoes and lettuce seedlings. They explored how food is important in many celebrations and used their mathematical knowledge to create rangoli designs in celebration of Diwali. The grade fives also got to experience the Yukon Striker roller coaster in Canada with the help of VR goggles.
