Grade 1 and 2
What a busy fornight we have had in the junior school. It has been one to remember and we are so proud of each and every student. Here is a wrap up of Grandparents and Special Persons Day, the CERES Excursion and World Teachers' Day.
Grandparents and Special Persons Day
Thank you everyone for attending our Grandparents and Special Persons morning last Friday. We had an amazing turn out and it showed just how much support is around our little people. We can't thank you enough for all the pick ups, drop offs and all round help that you provide along with parents and carers for our children to come to school happy and be in a safe environment. The students have worked extremely hard all year and in particular the last couple of weeks rehearsing their special performance. We are proud of each and every one of them.
A big thank you to Sarah Bailey for putting together and teaching the Preps, Grade Ones and Grade Twos three beautiful songs to share with our guests on short notice, it was very touching and the students did us proud.
CERES Excursion
On Wednesday 30th October the Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students headed to CERES for an excursion with a focus on Indigenous Perspectives. We were welcomed to CERES with an Acknowledgement of Country where students respected and connected to the land by touching the ground, then reached to the sky to Bunjil the Eagle (the Dreaming) and then hugging themselves to hold onto the knowledge they have to pass onto others. The day was then split into three activities.
- A CERES walk learning about native flora where we gained knowledge about the connection to land through food and smells. We tasted leaves that were salty and spinach like and had the amazing aromas of mint and lemon mrytle.
- We performed a Dreamtime story that was passed down from Elders about Tiddalik Stories.
- Another activity was Ochre painting. Students used Ochre to paint their arms and chose symbols and meanings to tell stories. We were also treated to face Ochre paint to represent the culture and the Indigenous languages spoken throughout country.
We were immersed in Aboriginal culture from the moment we walked in and students were engaged and asked rich connections and their responsibility for caring for the land through totemic system.
Thank you to Mrs Callaway, Angela and Mr Webber for supporting us in having a fantastic day learning about the Indigenous culture.
World Teachers' Day 2024
Friday 25th October was World Teachers' Day. Thank you Mr Webber for organising our THRIVE ticket reward and making Friday afternoon special. Teachers could choose from a range of rewards like a carwash, class party, coffee and more. 2B and 3M came together for their class parties and a few cars were being washed in the courtyard.
Happy World Teachers' Day to all ACPS staff and teachers around the world. We love what we do and that is a credit to the students, families and community we are in who make it an amazing place to be.
We hope the sun continues to shine and everyone enjoys the extra long weekend.
