Miss Marks' Message
Hello everyone,
Welcome back for Term 4!
It is hard to believe that our Footy Day celebrations, special lunch and MND Australia fundraiser were more than three weeks ago! This year is certainly moving quickly and we are looking forward to a busy term four filled with camps, transition and other special events!
Thank you!
Thank you to The Parents' Club and our school administration team for their work behind the scenes in preparing for the special lunch last term. I heard wonderful pieces of feedback from the students as they consumed their hot pies and sausage rolls. Thank you also to the Bannockburn Bakehouse for their support of our school.
I would also like to thank our School Leaders for their efforts in preparing for the MND Fundraiser on the final day of Term 3. Many staff and some brave students went home shivering from the cold ice water that was tipped over their head, but we all had such a wonderful time celebrating the end of term with the fundraiser.
Donation to MND from students: $286.21
Planning for 2025
Our school team will soon go through the process of creating class lists for the 2025 school year. This process is extensive and involves many hours of staff time. Students are involved in this process too, selecting five peers they would like to be with the following year. We always guarantee students will have at least one peer from this list, which may sound low, however with different composite and class structures it is impossible to provide any more assurance than this.
We also provide the opportunity for families to relay any considerations they have for next year too. As we have a process for considering student peer choices, please be aware we don’t take peer requests from families. However, if you have other circumstances you believe are exceptional that we do need to consider, these can be emailed to the school by Monday October 21st. (teesdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au)
Behaviour Flowchart
During Term 3, we launched our new behaviour flowchart. The flowchart is a component of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour System, or SWPBS. The Behaviour Flowchart is in place to protect learning time and ensure we are responding in a systematic way to student behaviour.
From this week, we are making improvements to the flowchart process to include active and guided reflection. In previous situations where students have reached 'step 3' of the flowchart, they have spent some of their breaktime on the benches. During this time, the student's teacher has conducted a check-in with them to prompt reflection on the choices made. From this week, students who reach 'step 3' of the flowchart will spend some of their breaktime inside. During this time, staff will support students to actively reflect on their choices by completing a reflection form. Students will take home their completed reflection form and an email will be shared with relevant families to encourage students to share with their family their reflections and opportunities to reset.
To acknowledge positive behaviours, we have recently had 1000 brand new tokens made and these are in circulation across the school. In recent weeks we have been excited to see a record number of tokens collected by each House and we celebrate this each Friday afternoon.
Policy Updates
This week, we have added a new page to our Newsletter where you can access updated policies and other documentation. Documented policies are the means by which the Department of Education and the school community set out the school’s position on a particular topic. Policies are important tools that reflect the school's values and support the school’s compliance with the Minimum Standards for School Registration, including the Child Safe Standards. The Department of Education provides advice and guidance for school policies, to ensure they meet legislative requirements.
Our policy in focus this week is the Respect for School Staff policy which connects with our school values and respectful interactions.
Take care,
Chelsey
