Snapshots from Springvale Campus
As we embrace the beautiful season of spring, our garden on Springvale Campus has been abuzz with activity, with students weeding, watering, planting and harvesting during their Environmental Science lessons. The MLC students have used the odd looking but delicious carrots and cabbages to prepare a yummy and nutritious noodle dish.
In addition to this, the Year 3 students were lucky enough to be involved in the 2024 One Tree Per Child program. This is an initiative run by the City of Greater Dandenong council and is aimed at enhancing tree canopy coverage and promoting biodiversity within our community. On Springvale Campus, the beautiful native tree seedlings, including Golden Wattle and Coastal Banksia, have been planted along the fence line around the oval. This experience provided an opportunity for the students to learn about the lifecycle of plants, the importance of trees and their role in ecosystems, including benefits like habitat provision, environmental quality and local biodiversity. We look forward to watching the seedlings grow into beautiful trees that will also provide more greenery and shade in our yard.
As we approach the end of the school year, our teachers are focusing on how to best support our students’ learning in Term 4. This week they have had time out of the classroom to work in their Professional Learning Teams to analyse student learning data, identify students’ strengths and areas for improvement and collaboratively planning teaching and learning cycles that meet all the students’ earning needs.
Lastly, a reminder to everyone that it is hat wearing season. Spring and summer bring with them higher levels of UV, even on cloudy or cooler days, so please ensure that your child has a hat at school every to ensure they are sun smart and can play safely outside at recess and lunch.
Warm regards,
