Highlights from Heights Campus

This week our Foundation students went on an exciting excursion to Chesterfield Farm!  Excursions play an important part in every child’s education. They provide opportunities for students to go to new places and see new things. By engaging in new experiences students gain practical, real-life knowledge and understandings that reinforce and expand upon classroom learning.

Our Foundation students had an amazing time at the farm! It was a day filled with fun and hands-on learning, and packed with many opportunities for students to get up close with a variety of farm animals.

During the visit, students participated in a lot of engaging and knowledge-building activities. The first was watching the farmer milk a cow, which gave them insight into farm life and a better understanding of where their food comes. After the demonstration, each student had the chance to take a turn at milking the cow themselves; even the staff got involved!

Next, the students enjoyed a tractor ride around the farm, during which the farmer shared interesting facts about the many animals they encountered along the way. They spotted sheep, goats, camels, deer, kangaroos, and even an ostrich!

After the ride, the students went on a walk around the paddocks, where they had the exciting opportunity to hand-feed some of the animals they had seen earlier.

Back in the show-barn, the students watched in awe as Scout, the farm’s best working sheepdog, expertly herded sheep around the field. It was fascinating to see the dog’s skill and teamwork with the farmer. However, the highlight of the day, without a doubt, was the chance to enter the animal enclosures and stroke the baby goats, lambs, and most people’s favourite - the rabbits! The students were thrilled to interact with the gentle animals, and this hands-on experience left everyone with big smiles and wonderful memories.
