PREP BREAKFAST DAY

Our Preps enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the annual Prep Breakfast Day at our College. We had wonderful student helpers from older year levels helping our staff. Thank you to everyone for making it a great morning!

PRIMARY YEARS MATH DAY

On Wednesday 6th November, we will be having our Primary Years Maths Day. On this day all students will have the opportunity to participate in a day full of engaging activities to celebrate our love of Maths!

Each year level will have a different theme for the day and students will have the opportunity to come dressed up, or to bring a small toy that ties in with their theme.

  • Prep - Teddy Bears Picnic
  • Year 1 - Animal Maths
  • Year 2 - Money, Money, Money
  • Year 3 - Pirate Maths
  • Year 4 - Holiday Maths
  • Year 5 - Maths is Magic

To help us celebrate our love of Maths, we are also inviting all of our families to join us during Session 1, from 8:45 AM - 9:45 AM. Please feel free to come in at any time during Session 1 and move between classes if you have multiple children in different areas of the school. Our students will be playing games, doing puzzles and completing other engaging activities, so please join in and play along too!

If you have any further questions regarding what students should wear or bring along, please speak with your child's classroom teacher.

VICTORIAN PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE

The office of Premier Jacinta Allan has acknowledged Hazel Glen's efforts in participating in the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge this year by sending out certificates to all students who completed the challenge. These will be sent home this week. A whopping 195 students met the requirements of the challenge this year, indicating an increase in the percentage of registered students from last year.

Great work, Hazel Glen College!

DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH

Do you find it really hard and time-consuming to read? Do you find spelling so hard that you find it difficult to write what you want or, worse still, express yourself at all? Chances are you have Dyslexia. October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Every year, Dyslexia Awareness Month is recognised to teach others about the disorder, offer support and celebrate the achievements of people with Dyslexia.

To acknowledge the event this year, students from the Leadership Academy felt compelled to create a video promoting awareness and understanding of Dyslexia. To complement this informative video, we’re offering a free eBook sent out on Compass with information about Dyslexia, such as what people with dyslexia are good at, what difficulties they might face, and helpful strategies you can try at home. This eBook was made available by Nessy, a company known for advocating for children with dyslexia around the globe. You can visit their website for more information, online training and free resources.

All of us have a part to play in supporting equality in opportunities to learn and reducing the stigma around learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
