Introducing David Foley and Tandy Johnson
As part of our 100 year celebrations, we commissioned local Pottery Artist, Mary Lou Pittard to create a special mural for our atrium. Over time, pottery murals have been installed on the brick wall surrounds and they tell a wonderful story of the journey and life of the school. With this special design, the leaves represent the environment and show two types of the local gum trees that are found locally in our area. Mary Lou started working with the students in term 3. Together, the students have each painted their own tile and recorded their initials at the bottom to show the next generations of visitors who may walk through our doors in the future.
The design was created on hardy board and all the pottery tiles were designed and painted by the students. Think of a massive jigsaw with hundreds of pieces. The tiles were sorted, arranged, glued, grouted, polished and placed on to the backing boards. The final step was to erect the components and connect it to the wall in the atrium. Congratulations to our students for the efforts. We can be very proud of this wonderful artistic piece and Marylou’s passion and commitment. The students have loved the opportunity to learn and build their skills working with pottery.
