Message from the Principal Team
Week 4 Term 4 2024
Dear CNPS Families,
This week I wanted to touch upon the importance the role parents/carers play in the functioning of a school. Since commencing as Acting Principal I have been involved with all sub-committees of school council, meeting with dedicated groups of parents/carers and colleagues, who volunteer their time to improve CNPS. Schools are a microcosm of community and we should feel proud of the way Carlton North Primary School’s community collaborate and passionately pursue the best interests of the school. On behalf of CNPS can we please thank all the hard working parents/carers and staff members for the work they do.
Student Learning
At the centre of all schools is a vision for our students to be lifelong learners. Carlton North Primary School is no different. This week I had the opportunity to attend learning sessions in the school that focused on learning support and extension. On Tuesday morning I was lucky to sit in on a MiniLit session with Julia. It was wonderful to observe the session (and play a game of bingo) to gain a deeper understanding of how the program operates and supports students in their learning. Another opportunity I enjoyed participating in this week, was with some of our Year 5/6 students who participated in a Mathematics Association of Victoria (MAV) online enrichment games day. I am passionate about providing students the opportunity to extend and stretch their learning. Thank you to Assistant Principal Jane Bilby for organising this session for our students.
World Teachers Day
On Friday 25 October 2024 it was World Teachers Day. To celebrate this important day on the Education calendar, SRC representatives (with Gaby), organised special certificates for all teachers to celebrate. It was lovely to be part of the assembly on Friday, as students acknowledged their teachers and the hard work they do for the students of CNPS.
Social and Fundraising Sub-Committee
Last Friday (25 October 2024) the social and fundraising committee met for the first time in Term 4. High on the agenda were discussions about recruiting new members to the committee and how fundraising revenue has been allocated. CNPS is incredibly grateful to the community for its generosity and actively contributing to the school’s vision and mission.
Throughout 2024 funds raised were contributed to the following areas:
- Buildings and Grounds – new bubblers (installation pending) and general maintenance
- Educational Resources – wellbeing, physical education and ICT (including new iPads for 2025)
- Camp program – staffing
- Operational – staffing (including contribution to casual relief teacher budget to support on-class continuity)
2025 Fete
As we near the end of the 2024 school year, preparations for the annual CNPS fete begin to ramp-up. If you are interested in joining the fete committee and leading one of the critical roles that makes ‘The Great Lee Street’ fete so famous, please make contact with Rebecca Kelly, Cath Doggett or the office.
*Please note the final Social and Fundraising Committee meeting for 2024 will be held on Friday 22 November at 8.15am.
