ICAS MATHS COMPETITION
On the last couple of Mondays at Assembly the High Distinction certificates were handed out for the 2024 ICAS Mathematics Competition. This year 286 Vermont Primary School students from Years 2-6 sat the competition with 15 achieving High Distinctions (Top 1% in the state). 46 students received Distinctions (Top 10% in the state) and a further 76 achieved a Credit (Top 30% in the state). Students who received Distinction, Credit, Merit or Participation certificates will be awarded these in their classrooms during the week.

Gold Medal
Students who achieve a perfect score in ICAS also received a gold medal. This year we had 1 student get a perfect score. That student is Martin from 5DW. Congratulations Martin!
YEAR 4 MATHS GAMES
Throughout this year, a group of 19 Year 4s have participated in the Australasian Problem Solving Maths Games. Here's an example of the type of question the Year 4s had to answer:

17 children play soccer and 15 children play basketball

YEAR 5 & 6 MATHS OLYMPIAD
We also had a Year 5 and Year 6 team compete in the Australasian Problem Solving Maths Olympiad. Each year, over 30,000 students from over 1,600 schools participate in this competition. Here's a sample Maths Olympiad question
A "cubisum" number is any counting number that can be written as the sum of any number of different positive cubes.
An example of a cubisum number is 92, since:
92 = (4x4x4) + (3x3x3) + (1x1x1)

Some very exciting news was that not only was Neal from 6GS our team high scorer, he also won a Gold Medal for achieving a perfect score across all 20 questions!
Finally, for the seventh year in a row, Vermont Primary's Year 6 team won a plaque for Outstanding Achievement for finishing in the top 10% of all teams across Australasia. A very special achievement indeed!
