Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

Welcome back to Term 4. This time of the year is the time where we begin to evaluate our programs across the school for their effectiveness to consider our directions for next year. It has been pleasing to show many families from our community around the College on tours who are seeking enrolments at Hazel Glen College for next year and look forward to more families joining our growing Primary Years community.

Next year, is our first year with Year 6 within our Primary Years and we are busy making plans for the students based on their feedback from student voice. Our students are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas to assist us with our forward planning for 2025. An exciting addition to our learning programs will be the inclusion of Year 6 Sport on Friday mornings where students will have the opportunity to take part in the Interschool Sport Program or a rotational team sport focus back at school. Our teachers and students are excited for this next year.

I am passionate about our students being provided with the best opportunities to set them up for success as they grow as future citizens. I know that Hazel Glen College offers the highest standard of school facilities and resources meaning that we can offer strong curriculum programs. We have dedicated and talented teachers who are masters in the fields of Education. This year we have offered Science as a speciliast subject for our Year 5's where they work in a fully functioning Science Laboratory located within our Primary Years precinct. Next year in Year 6, we will continue to offer Science as a specialist subject and the addition of Food Technology where our students will have the opportunity to work in our kitchen facilities. We can't wait to hear about their cooking experiences and hope that if your child is entering Year 6 next year that they are looking forward to many more opportunities that their teachers provide.

Next week, we will be welcoming our newly enrolled Prep families to our Prep 2025 Welcome Information Evening. I am excited to have many families join us next year and we are grateful to be the choice of school for your child. We know that the quality of our education programs and our amazing teachers will keep your children happy, engaged and connected as learners here at the College.

Australia will celebrate the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 25th October 2024. Let’s celebrate Australia’s teachers for their skilled work in educating, inspiring and supporting our young people. Make sure to tell teachers what they mean to you. This is your chance to join Australia in celebrating teachers. Our teachers at Hazel Glen College work tirelessly to support their students with dedication and commitment supporting the learning and wellbeing of our school community.

On Friday 25th October, we welcome you and your child or children to join us as a College community to show appreciation by emailing via Compass or acknowledging your child’s teachers to recognise their work.

This week, we farewelled our College Deputy Principal Neil Baillie. Neil has been appointed as Principal at Epping Secondary College. Neil started at Hazel Glen in 2017 as the Senior School Principal and over the past 8 years has had various integral leadership roles, including Acting College Principal in 2023 and part of 2024. Neil's commitment, professionalism, knowledge and leadership of staff and students cannot be understated. Neil's contribution to building Hazel Glen to what it is today has been incredible and he will be missed at Hazel Glen College.

This week, we have welcomed back our College Principal Anthony Stockwell and he is looking forward to spending time with the Primary Years staff and students. Be sure to say hello if you are passing in the yard.

A reminder that Monday the 4th of November (Cup Week) is a student-free day. Our next Primary Years Assembly will be Friday the 25th October from 2PM at the Gym. Hope to see you there!
