Unserious Careers Roadshow
Last Thursday during Pillars, Year 10 students welcomed a special guest, Alana Kilmartin, author of Unserious Careers. Currently on a global journey to visit 250 schools as part of her Unserious Careers 2025 Roadshow, Alana shared her personal career story, offered practical advice on navigating 'what's next' and encouraged students to think creatively and expansively about their future pathways.




Charles Allan Seymour Hawker Scholarship


2025 applications open Monday 3 November 2025 and close Tuesday 2 December 2025.
The C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship commemorates the achievements of one of Australia's most respected pastoral pioneers who served in the First World War and went on to become a distinguished scholar and leading figure in the Federal Parliament, prior to his tragic and untimely death in the Kyeema aircraft accident in 1938.
The scholarship is available to Australian undergraduate and post-graduate students. Scholarships are valued at up to $75,000 and contribute to the cost of residential fees at either:


The Future Doctors Australia program provides a unique, hands-on opportunity for students aged 14-18 who are passionate about a future in medicine. Over the course of 4 days, participants will engage in dynamic sessions led by experienced medical specialists, take part in practical learning activities, and gain valuable insights into the medical admissions process. This program is designed to inspire and equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed on their path to a medical career.

Feed Your Mind, Feed the World

Feed Your Mind, Feed the World is a three-day experience for Year 11 and 12 students interested in learning more about agricultural science and career pathways stemming from an agricultural science degree. From 2–4 December, students can experience the beautiful North West Coast of Tasmania to learn about the advantages of studying agriculture science, including a visit to our research farms. Students will be supervised by our Tasmanian Institute of Agricultural staff and will gain first-hand knowledge of where studying agriculture science can lead.
School of Natural Sciences


New taster unit - Accepting expressions of interest. Applications open 1 December.
The School of Natural Sciences will be offering a pilot taster unit for Year 12 Tasmanian students only in 2026, with 24 spots available. This will run over the second week of the Easter school holidays for six nights: Three nights at Mount Field/Maydena with a trip to Greenhill Observatory and three days on Sandy Bay campus.
This is for students who will be going into Year 12 in 2026, who are studying or studied:
TASC 3 Physical Sciences, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Mathematics Methods-Foundation and General Mathematics, TASC 4 Mathematics methods, Mathematics Specialised, Chemistry and Physics.
This initiative is designed to provide students with an engaging introduction to Natural Sciences and encourage future study in the Bachelor of Science.

Health Taster Days


Expressions of interest close Friday 24 October 2025
The Health Taster Day offers a unique opportunity to visit the Medical Science Precinct and Domain campuses in Hobart at the University of Tasmania and engage with staff across multiple disciplines in a day of activities. The day is designed for students in Year 10 wanting to engage with experts in a range of health-related fields and participate in hands on activities in scientific settings.
