Head of Instrumental Music
Our students had a triumphant return to the repaired theatre for the Spring Concert 2025! Showcasing performances from the Highvale Secondary college senior ensembles, soloists and bands, the standard was very high, and the diversity of performances was particularly impressive.
The evening commenced with pre-show soloist performances from our hard-working VCE Music Repertoire Performance students and other senior performers, before kicking off with our 90+ HSC Orchestra, who not only put on a huge performance but tested out the skills of our dedicated stage crew who managed to fit everyone onto the stage!
With over 30 performances it was a big night, so a massive congratulations to all of our hard-working performers, stage crew and organisers, with a particular big thanks to all of our Instrumental Music Teachers, Chris Mitchell, Aysha McCoy and Ben Franklin for their efforts bringing it all together!
Special congratulations to the Year 12 VCE Music students who have now almost all completed their performance exams, and we look forward to hearing all of our junior and intermediate ensembles and performers in our end of year concert on November 5th.

Stage Band Conductor
On Monday 20th October, the Highvale Secondary College Stage Band visited the Retirement Village down the road to perform for them. The program included a selection of upbeat Stage Band numbers dispersed with solos and small ensemble items. The audience was very appreciative, and the students enjoyed the performance opportunity. Plans are underway to visit in the near future to play Christmas repertoire.
Feedback from the Retirement Village management:
‘On behalf of our residents and staff, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the talented students who visited us to share their music yesterday. Their performance brought so much joy and warmth to our community, and it was great to see our residents so engaged and uplifted by the beautiful melodies!
We deeply appreciate the time, effort, and enthusiasm your students, your colleagues and you put into preparing and performing. It was a wonderful reminder of the power of music to connect generations and create lasting memories.
Please pass on our gratitude to everyone involved. We hope to welcome you back again in the future! Please let us know if we can organise Christmas carols, that would be fantastic!
Thank you again!’
Congratulations to all the students involved, and to Mr Jim McGuffie and Mr Nick Milosevic for their invaluable assistance on the day.
