Science Talent Search Success!

Last week at assembly, several of our wonderful STEM students received awards and prizes for their efforts in this year’s Science Talent Search. This statewide competition, which opens in February each year, sees students compete in a range of different categories including science experiments, science games, science stories and science inventions and models.

Jack & Adam - Year 2: Major Bursary - Lower Primary Working Models

The boys made a working model of a magnetic levitating train. They had to solve several problems along the way, but they took lots of photos and videos of their work and the judges were so impressed that they awarded the boys the major prize! The judges said:

Well done boys, this was an excellent project! I could really see the process you went through

in designing, testing and reporting. You were able to solve problems and your written report

was very clear, detailed and I love the use of videos as well. Great job!

Hunter & Noah - Year 3: Minor Bursary - Middle Primary Games

The boys created a board game called Stop the Meteorite! They did a lot of research and the game included question cards and a board to move around.

Niah Vincent - Year 2: Minor Bursary - Lower Primary Creative Writing

Niah wrote a story called Welcome to my Smart Home which told about how a smart home was able to keep a family cool and catch a robber!

Oliver - Year 4: Merit Certificate - Middle Primary Experimental Research

Oliver wanted to compare how different Hot Wheels cars moved on a race track, so he designed an experiment to test his ideas.

Frankie & Juliet - Year 5: Merit Certificate - Upper Primary Experimental Research

The girls were curious to know if dogs respond to different types of music, so they designed an experiment to test their ideas.

Well done to all our enthusiastic entrants. We hope to have many more entries from our students next year.
