CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week we are taking on mathematics concepts that are familiar to Year 1 students including: fact families, multiplication, division and fractions. 


VOCABULARY

Fact Families: Year 1 students are creating addition and subtraction number sentences and their turnarounds.

 

Multiplication: Concepts including repeated addition, arrays and grouping.

 

Division: Concepts such as sharing and regrouping. 

 

Fractions: Dividing numbers or shapes into equal parts.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Build fractions with playdough - use a plastic cup or cookie cutter and create circles in the dough. Use a plastic knife to divide the shapes into equal parts

 

 

Share toys, food items, buttons, pom poms etc. in groups. Ask your child if there are equal groups or if there are remainders
