BPS Sports Shorts Finale 2023

Dear BPS,

What a year it’s been and here we are closing in on the finishing line! I think I blinked a few times between January and the start of term 4 and the year was gone!!! As we look ahead to the final few weeks and the end of an era for our 2023 Graduates and Families, we say a BIG BPS thank you to you all for your contributions this year! It’s been a TEAM effort BPS!

This message comes as a thank you and acknowledgement of all the people who have made Physical Education and Sport at BPS memorable and wonderful in 2023.

I need to start by specifically thanking my amazing staff team who always have my back; Mr C, Miss Fusillo, our BPS Specialist Team of Mrs D, Miss Yi, Mrs Shacklock and Trinity and my two sports coordinators who have journeyed alongside me in Mrs Fountain and Miss Wood. Thank you to you all for always being there to support me.

Thank you to our wonderful House Captains who have been faithful and an awesome team throughout the year: Abbie, Alfie, Matilda, Austin, Ayla, Steven, Lauren and Max.

And to you BPS, thank you to our community for your role in volunteering for events and supporting your children through their year of PE, Sport and physical activities.

Thank you to the Battye, Turner and Armstrong families for your ongoing commitment to our Monday morning before school training sessions. To volunteer your time each week to help our students get active before a day at school is very much appreciated by us all! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, time and energies. We appreciate you all!!!

Our final Running Club session for the year will be on Monday 11th December!

BPS Female Cricket Team and WBBL Melbourne Stars visit

Congrats to our grade 2 – 6 cricket players who signed up for a four-week clinic spread across Tuesday lunchtimes in term 3 and 4 aimed specifically for females. Thanks to the Blackburn Cricket Club and Cricket Victoria for this opportunity to support our students. Over the four weeks, our cricket players developed confidence in batting, bowling, fielding and teamwork games. It was amazing to watch our players growth in skills and confidence!

In term 4 Cricket Victoria invited our school to host two WBBL Melbourne Stars players for a double session. Grade 1FR, FT and all our female cricket players took part in this fun cricket session with Melbourne Stars players, Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Day. It was really inspiring to listen to Annabel and Sophie talk about their development and love for the game as well as play some fun games with both players.

Kaboom House Sports – F-2 and our Grade 6 student leaders

We had a fun and engaging House Sports for our F-2 students on the BPS oval organized by Kaboom!! To start the event, our Kaboom Leaders led us through a fun dance-off with our F-2 staff kicking off their heels and grooving to the beats with our students! We then launched into 12 fun activities ranging from flinging chickens off a parachute, a balancing challenge course to a funky soccer goal kick, putt putt golf, spin the wheel and fling the fruit. Our kids had a ball working together and having fun! Our house points were scored across the rotation activities for the effort and teamwork various groups gave.

Well done to all our students, leaders and staff on an awesome day!!

Congrats to Sturt, Cook and Tasman who won the House Cup shield in a three way tie! And Dampier were not far behind with only 20 less points than our winning trio!

Thank you to our grade 6 student leaders for your efforts leading the charges on our fun day; Austin, Matilda, Abbie, Alfie, Ayla, Steven, Lauren, Max, Shrenik, Jack, Dylan and Antonia!

BPS Dodgeball House Cup 2023

It’s always a favourite way to finish the year with our BPS Grade 3 – 6 Dodgeball House Cup in term 4 and this year didn’t disappoint. We had 12 teams compete in their houses for a place in the preliminary finals and then the big grand final.

Each of our teams played in their own house round robin with the winner progressing to a spot in the preliminary finals.

Our preliminary finals saw the Glorious Greens (Sturt), Tasmanian Devils (Tasman), Let’s COOK them! (Cook) and Smurfcats (Dampier) play off for two spots in the grand final! Congratulations to Let’s COOK them! and Smurf Cat who qualified for our 2023 grand final.

On Grand Final Day we had our fun Staff V Grade 6 captains’ game. Thank you to all our players in both teams and our students that made it even funnier with their dress-ups! Well done to our 21 strong team of students who beat our staff team 18 to 26!!! It was a lot of fun throwing dodgeballs at each other!!!

The grand final was a nerve-wracking game over 8 minutes with the lead changing several times. The winning team is the team with the least number of outs and as the siren sounded the scores were, Let’s COOK them! - 29 and Smurf Cat - 27.

Congratulations to Smurfcats, our 2023 BPS Dodgeball House Cup Champions!
