The Patch Program

Term 4, Week 10

We’ve had a wonderful year in the Patch, and the spring weather has given an early boost to everything we’ve planted! It’s looking fantastic for all our veges next year.

The students have learnt lots this year in the garden - transplanting, planting, weeding (never ending), bee hotels, seed saving and indigenous plants for example.

Our pumpkins and rockmelons are starting to trail across the ground, the little orange tree is covered in oranges, tomatoes are looking great, and so is the pomegranate.

We’ve also planted some weird and wonderful veges to see what they look and taste like next year - purple carrots, cucamelons, tomatillos, yellow beans, dragons blood beans and about 8 varieties of tomatoes.

In the kitchen, we have used so much produce from the garden! We started off the year with pizzas

We also made dumplings, Anzac biscuits and cheesy vegetable tart decorated with edible flowers

In Winter we made carrot, pumpkin and lentil soup with soda bread which was delicious on those freezing cold days

Grade 5 and 6 made dumplings, and we finished the year off with pizza scrolls and carrot cupcakes, with crazy carrots straight from The Patch

I’d like to thank all the wonderful parents and grandparents who signed up to help in our cooking classes, we loved having you there!

Have a wonderful break, and happy cooking and gardening,

Trinity
