Sustainability
Group One:
Students have been investigating threats to the turtle population within the Mullinmur Billabong. Data collected via visual checks and trail cameras will be communicated to the Million Turtles Program. - Lori
Group Two:
In Sustainability students have been checking and monitoring nesting boxes down at the Mullinmur Billabong. They have come across a number of different species inhabiting these including Brushtail Possums, Ringtail Possums, Sugar Gliders and Squirrel Gliders. This information will be used to gain a greater understanding of the native species in this area and will help guide restoration and planting programs into the future. - Leif
Group Three:
Within Josh's group ... Students are investigating ways in which they can improve the water quality of the Mullinmur Billabong. They are designing and experimenting with different designs for the production of Aquatic Plant rafts. These rafts aim to improve the quality of the water within the Mullinmur Billabong by decreasing the water temperature, filtering the water and providing habitat for macro-invertebrates. Students are now designing aquatic plant rafts made entirely of natural materials. These rafts will, over time, sink to the Billabong floor where the roots of the aquatic plants will hopefully take hold.
