In Literacy during Term 1 we have been laying the foundation for our Inquiry Unit in Term 2.  We have found that we can expose the students to other subject areas while teaching them Literacy skills and strategies during our Literacy classes.  We are currently studying Early Australian History.  We have learnt about Early Indigenous Life, The Convict Era, The Goldrush and briefly looked at Bushrangers.  This term we have given the students a taste of each of these topics so that in Term 2 they will be able to make an informed choice about which topic they would like to base their research on.  Each week we include a vocabulary list of words that relate to any reading tasks the students have.  This not only helps the student to learn to read more words but also builds their understanding of these words and their comprehension of our pieces of text.

In Numeracy Term 1, our focus has primarily been on completing our essential assessment testing, covering key areas in Number, Algebra, and Measurement. Students have been diligently honing their skills in Time and Financial maths. Through various exercises and activities, they have been exploring concepts such as calculating elapsed time, budgeting, making financial decisions, and understanding the value of money. This foundational work not only enhances their mathematical proficiency but also equips them with essential life skills crucial for navigating everyday challenges. Key concepts next term include Length, Area and Perimeter.
