Principal's News

Dear Clayton North Primary School Community,

Welcome to December, just over two weeks to the end of the 2023 school year!

Teachers are busy reading and checking student reports; Semester 2 reports will be accessible in Sentral from Wednesday 13th December. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's report.

Student Learning and Engagement

Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM)

As mentioned in the last newsletter, we coducted an introductory session for our current Year 2/3 students three weeks ago, which was extremely well-received by students and parents. Following a Parent Information session soon after, we have made the decision to move forward in running a 5 x 90-minute program next year, engaging our Year 3/4 students in science and engineering concepts. As this program will be delivered by an external provider, Inspire Robotics, there is an additional cost involved; details will be provided in writing to parents of the 2024 Year 3/4 students.

The program we will begin with is:

Rocketeers: Truly a feat of rocket science, the Rocketeers program immerses students in the realm of aerospace engineering. Designing, building, and launching rockets in teams—this program is filled with excitement and finishes with a bang!

Performing Arts

Following a review of our programs and the challenges of staffing last term, we will be replacing our Music program with a Performing Arts program, the broad aim of which is to develop students' confidence and expose them to a variety of opportunities, such as the State Schools Spectacular, dance, debating, etc., with a view to reap the benefits from our multicultural context. Jenny Greenway has taken on the role of the Performing Arts teacher for 2024. Jenny has already jumped into this role, registering CNPS to participate in the State Schools Spectacular and identifying other amazing experiences for students to participate in!

Year 6 Graduation

It is the time of year when we say 'goodbye and good luck' to our senior cohort! On Wednesday 13th December, as a school community, we will acknowledge and celebrate their seven years of education in primary school. The formal proceedings will begin at 4pm and finish by 6pm. We look forward to parents and families joining us at this important event in providing a memorable send-off to our students.

2024 School Captains

The 2024 School Captains selection process is underway. Staff were privileged to be audience to the eight Year 5 students who presented their speech for why they each would make a great school captain. Well done to Abdulrahman,  Farouq, Adele, Megan, Bisma, Nubaid, Rafsan, Yumin! They spoke with confidence and demonstrated their understanding of leadership. Good luck in the selection process!

Book Fair

Clayton North Primary School is once again hosting the Scholastic Book Fair to promote literacy and engage students to connect with books they want to read. Please come along next week, 4th to 8th December, 8.15 - 8.45am and 3.15 - 3.45pm, and choose from a range of affordable books that suit your child's reading level and interest.

Wish you all a great weekend!
