Library
It has been a busy time setting up both the Junior and Senior campus libraries. Excitement was in the air when the first boxes of books arrived to fill our library shelves.
The students are very much looking forward to seeing their libraries bursting with books. The journey for a book or resource to make it to the library shelf is quite arduous when you consider each item must be processed, catalogued and contacted. We thank students and staff for their patience and understanding with this. We cannot wait for shelves to be filled and borrowing to occur.
Bemin Secondary College values Independent Reading a practice which all students can successfully undertake as it can be differentiated for every student. The library team has been preparing resources to support classroom practice. These resources will support the English curriculum.
What makes an effective school library? The school library is a central hub supporting every student and staff member, as well as parents and community. According to the National Library website “the library combines several elements – library staff, resources, and space. Each of these plays an important part in supporting teaching and learning. School libraries are most effective when these elements combine to form an integrated whole.

Student feedback: “I like having a calm space to hang out with my friends and the games we can play, especially Jenga. It’s cool that the Wellbeing team is there too” ~ Oakley Year 7.
“I like the games you can play, and I am looking forward to having my artwork displayed in the ‘Creative Corner’” ~ Maddy Year 7.
Here are some students rehearsing for Harmony Day. Students can also use the library during lunchtimes for personal study.
The library is also used by Junior campus for assemblies and hosting morning tea for parents and guardians.
