Senior School

Dear Bemin Secondary College Community,

As we bid farewell to Term One, we can't help but reflect on the remarkable journey we've embarked upon together. From the moment our doors opened to welcome our inaugural students and staff, the energy and enthusiasm in our College community have been palpable.

At the Senior Campus, one of our core focuses is instilling in our students the importance of setting high expectations for themselves and embodying our College values of Respect, Excellence, Community, and Innovation. This term, we've seen these values come to life in countless ways, shaping the foundation of our school culture.

Some of the ways we have seen our College values and high expectations come to life at Senior School include but are not limited to:

College Opening Ceremony

Highlights of the term include our unforgettable Opening Ceremony, where our Year 7 students from the Junior Campus joined us in a momentous celebration. It was an honour to have Ben Carroll the Victorian Minister for Education and Sarah Connolly MP Labour member for Laverton as our distinguished guests, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our College.

Interschool Sports

In the realm of sports, our students showcased their talent and determination during our first interschool volleyball competition. While the boys' team fought hard for third place, the girls' team's journey to the grand final was a testament to their skill and teamwork.

Harmony Day

Bemin Secondary College celebrated its first Harmony Week from Monday 18th of March to Friday the 22nd. It was a week filled with various activities, to show our acknowledgement and appreciation of the schools’ culturally diverse community.

Students participated in cultural workshops and sports throughout the week. On Thursday 21st of March, students wore their traditional clothing and displayed these on a cultural runway. Several groups representing different countries also performed cultural dances in front of the whole school.

Ms. Fiona Toloa and Ms. Suzanne Higginbottom led a planning committee consisting of education staff and students. They dedicated many hours in organising the activities, setting up the decorations, and coordinating the performances.

It was wonderful to see Bemin’s staff and students proudly represent their countries and cultures. We are also very grateful to all parents for encouraging their children to participate in this inaugural event.

Early Start VCE Program

Our early start VCE students have demonstrated exemplar levels of resilience and work ethic as they navigate the demands of their early start VCE subjects independently. Their dedication to their studies serves as an inspiration to us all.

Assemblies Celebrating Student Success

As a year level of high expectations, our foundation Senior school students are encouraged to embody the College values of Respect, Excellence, Innovation and Community. In addition to embracing these values as part of College life, students are also encouraged to reflect on the place these values will play in their future beyond school, particularly in tertiary education and the workplace, where students will continue to aim high and achieve success.

Many of our students consistently demonstrate the College values both in and out of the classroom. Throughout the term, teachers have proudly nominated many students for going above and beyond to show the College values. These achievements were celebrated in year level assemblies across Term 1.

The following students were nominated for Values Awards in Term 1:

Appointment of Inaugural Senior School Student Leaders

We're also thrilled to announce the appointment of our first Senior School captains, vice-captains, and student leaders for our Student Leadership Committee. These individuals have already begun to demonstrate their leadership qualities and commitment to serving their fellow students.

M.A.D Teachers (Teachers who Make A Difference)

As we celebrate these milestones, we must acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our teachers and wider Senior School staff. Their tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping the positive culture of our college community and ensuring that we continue to grow and thrive.

As we look ahead to the coming term, we're excited to see what new opportunities and achievements await us and what new heights our students aspire to reach. Together, we will continue to build a vibrant and inclusive college community where every student has the opportunity to flourish.

With gratitude and excitement,

Term One Student Reflections

Riley Gillman

My name is Riley Gillman of 10E and I am one of the Senior School Captains at Bemin Secondary College. My first week at Bemin Secondary College was a shaky start as I was in a class with not many people I knew, but by the end of the week I had already made new friends amongst my class and it made the term way more enjoyable. The main thing I have enjoyed at Bemin Secondary College is being able to develop new friendships amongst my class and even outside of my classes too and with that being able to experience just what a new school like Bemin has to offer and can provide for its students. I am looking forward to many opportunities at Bemin but specifically, I am looking forward to the Advanced Maths program in Term 2 as I will be able to prepare myself to be able to do Maths Methods in Year 11. One thing I’m looking forward to next term is the Footy Oval opening and being able to play the sport I love (AFL) there.

Komal Jammu

My first term at Bemin Secondary College was a great experience. Teachers and staff members have been welcoming and friendly since day one. The opening ceremony for this school was quite nice to be a part of as foundational students. I really enjoyed our harmony week as I got to see how students take initiative and how to manage events. I also loved helping out and performing on Harmony day. Harmony day will always be an amazing memory, the dance performances were an interesting way to get to know other people’s cultures and backgrounds. I have also enjoyed making new friends and having teachers who I can go to for example, Miss Deepika, my Homeroom and Maths teacher is one of the wonderful teachers I have encountered during term 1 of my school journey at Bemin secondary college. I appreciate everyone doing their part in our school community. I am really looking forward to next term, especially athletics day and getting to know our house colours. I just hope that the rest of our years goes just as well as this term.

Sundeep Nijjer

Reflecting on term 1, there have been many new opportunities and challenges regarding our learning and adapting from different schools. At first I found it difficult to cope with the difficulties regarding moving and navigating a new school atmosphere including my class/es but now, towards the end of the term, I have found it to be much easier and exciting to enjoy the opportunities a new school and cohort have presented. I have overall enjoyed lots of things in the 1st term of 2024 at Bemin Secondary College, including the ability to voice my opinion as the first College Captain and Harmony week where we were all able to show-off our cultures and learn more about each other's cultural traditions. From the first term alone, it is apparent that this year will be unique and valuable towards, not only, our learning growth but also to grow as individuals. I would like to thank the many people who have encouraged and supported me including my teachers, peers and my classmates.

The first term as the inaugural students of Bemin Secondary College has been a great learning experience and being one of the students here, I have seen so much growth within our school already. We started off with our opening ceremony, in which many students got involved with organising this event including myself. Later on through the term we had our student leadership team decided. One of my most enjoyable subjects would be math with Miss Xia. Overall this term has been great considering it’s a brand new school and I have really enjoyed it.
