Junior School
Assistant Principal Junior School - Overview
Dear families,
As we pause and take a moment to look at the whirlwind of activities and achievements this term, I couldn't be more thrilled to reflect on the incredible milestones of our Year 7s so far. From nervous first-day jitters to standing tall and becoming leaders of our school, it's been filled with excitement and growth.
Opening Ceremony:
Remember the excitement as we kicked off the term? Sarah Connolly, the Local Member for Laverton, joined us at the junior campus, setting the tone for a year of community spirit and support. And who could forget our school's official opening ceremony and the first chance the year 7’s got to see the senior campus? With Minister for Education Ben Carroll in attendance, our Year 7s blazed a trail from junior to senior campus in a record-breaking 20 minutes – talk about making an entrance!
Student achievements:
We proudly recognized sixteen students with awards that embody our school's values of respect, innovation, community, and excellence.
Respect: Heer Acharya, Redaet Mengistu, Elroe Woldemariam, Tvisha Patel
Community: Vini Galo, Reet Patel, Oakley McWaters
Innovation: Oakley McWaters, Ehan Azfer
Excellence: Husnain Mohammed, Heel Patel, Munazza Ajaz, Nabhya Khambalkar, Keya Patel, Paarth Mahajan, Avni Sharma
Furthermore, it is with great excitement that we announce the formation of our inaugural Student Leadership Committee, featuring our very first Junior School Captains, Ishmay Jewana and Mreedula Nandi. Congratulations to them both on this esteemed appointment!
Year 7 BBQ:
As we connected with families at the BBQ, a sense of pride and gratitude was felt by all. It was a successful night and a great way for us to begin to build our school community. It was a joy to witness the beaming smiles of our students as they showed their school with pride, showing off their work, lockers and classrooms.
Excursions and Sports
At the inter-school volleyball competitions, our Year 7 team showcased outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork, resulting in our girls securing 4th place and our boys claiming an impressive 3rd. This collaborative spirit extended as our students triumphed over the teachers in a thrilling student vs. teacher volleyball competition. Additionally, 18 lucky students attended the Formula 1 event, offering them a glimpse into exciting opportunities beyond the school gates.
Harmony Week:
We capped off the term by celebrating Harmony Week, with the theme "Culture is our Strength." Throughout the week, our Harmony Week Student Leaders led a variety of activities that brought our diverse community together. On Harmony Day, many of our Year 7s came dressed in cultural attire, providing us with an opportunity to learn more about each other's backgrounds. I want to extend my gratitude to Suzanne and Shane, the Year 7 coordinators, for their hard work in orchestrating this meaningful week.
All these awesome moments, they're all thanks to you – our incredible students, supportive parents, and amazing teachers. Together, we're building something truly special here at Bemin Secondary College. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.
Kind regards,
Elyshia Sheldon
