Careers & Pathways
It has been an exciting start to the year at Bemin Secondary College. In particular a group of our Year 10 students completed the construction Induction course, White Card training at the college. Participants worked with the Careers and Pathways external provider to work through a series of modules to attain their white card (see photos below), an integral safety qualification necessary for anyone gaining access to a construction site. These students are now one step closer to working towards their trade centred pathway goal.
Students at the college also have access to our very own Headstart program, supporting students in school based apprenticeships and training. This program combines school, TAFE and paid work into students weekly timetable. We are thrilled to have Deb Hema work with us in this space from next term.
All students have access to Career and Pathways school information on the colleges own careers and pathways website, www.beminsccareers.com.au
On the site, students and families can explore information relating to senior school pathways and beyond including, working life, university, TAFE, apprenticeships and traineeships. Each student has access to their individualised account which they work on in their career and pathway classes. These classes give students the opportunity to explore senior schooling programs like VCE and VM and start planning for life after school.
I would like to thank students and families for taking the time to read my weekly Careers News posted on Compass. Consequently, I have had an overwhelmingly positive response to my call out for students to experience a Day in the Life of a Uni student, and have a strong representation from Bemin College at The University of Melbourne and Swinburne University holiday sessions. Have a restful term break and hope to see you in Term 2.
