On 18 November, eleven Cattle Team students competed at the Dubbo ASC Group 11 Young Judges and Paraders qualifiers. We walked away with some fantastic results.
Ollie Mendham won the young judge’s competition and now will go on to the Sydney Royal to compete in the State final. Ava Rouse was also selected in the top ten representatives out of 60 paraders to compete at the Sydney Royal Easter Show 2024, in the State final. Bree Adam and Cooper Roach, also made the final heat but unfortunately did not get selected.
Many thanks to the Dubbo Show Society for putting on a fantastic day, we can’t wait to see you next year.
We are now well and truly into the season. It has been great watching the teams improve on there skills and understanding of the game. I trust that everyone has had the chance to register and that they are fully aware of the uniform expectations and guidelines when playing in the local competition.

The Heat
The mighty Heat boys team has improved out of sight so far this season. As the boys are learning the various roles that each position has, our defence has become much more coordinated. Teamwork has improved and the basic skill level is far stronger than at the start of the season. Copious quantities of push-ups seem to have had the desired effect of improving focus and concentration at training ………and now if we could only shoot.
Mr Thomas
The Wolves
The Year 8 Wolves basketball team were selected to play in Division 2 of the Orange School Girls Competition, which was a great achievement, as many of the girls have not played basketball before. They have found this Division to be a challenge which they are ready to take on and are showing improvement with every game they play. Their ability to work as a team is showing potential and once, they have finessed their positioning on the Court, they will be a masterful unit. They are enthusiastic in their training sessions with the Panthers and display passion and energy in all the drills and skills undertaken.
The Panthers
The Year 8 Panthers are a highly athletic team who move with grace and determination around the basketball court. They are doing extremely well in Division 3 of the Schoolgirl Competition and have been on a winning streak this season. The ball passing is accurate, and their positional play continues to develop. They brim with positivity when training with their fellow Year 8 team, The Wolves. The Panthers are sure to have a terrific season of basketball.
Ms Graham
The Cheetahs
The Cheetahs have been working hard improving their skills and gameplay under the dedicated guidance of the coach extraordinaire Gerald Power. They are yet to win a game, but the enjoyment and the improvement are evident every step of the way.

Week 6, Term 4
With six weeks of cricket under our belts, it’s safe to say that our season has already almost had it all. At this point in the season, it would be remiss of me not to reflect on the achievements of our cricketers thus far.
At school level, I would like to recognise players who have received their Baggy Blue in the past weeks. To be awarded a Baggy Blue, players must compete in five competition games with our 1st XI. Congratulations to our most recent recipients: Charlie Anderson, Fletcher Byrne, Harry Brazier, Jack Harding, Charlie Miller, Angus Pengilly, Liam McKenzie and Keiron Vernon. Accompanying these presentations, our Senior cricketers compete for the ODCA Player of the Week each week. Over the past six weeks, three Kinross players have been recognized at association level for their achievements on match day.
Congratulations to Samuel Spliet (6/19), Will Haseler (5/14) and Walter Prowse (127) on being recognised for their efforts on Saturday.
Kinross is lucky enough to compete in three School-Based trophy competitions. Through the week, our youngest representative team competed in the Dale McIntosh Trophy Competition. Pleasingly, our Year 8s played some fantastic cricket, coming away with two wins from two matches. I congratulate the players on their efforts as they await other results in this competition. In the coming weeks, we will travel to Dubbo to take on Macquarie Anglican Grammar School in the 2nd round of both the Wiburd (Year 9) and Douglas (Opens) competitions. Good luck to all players selected to compete – it’s an honor to represent your school – go well!
Finally, it gives me great pleasure to pass on that two of our junior cricketers have been selected in the Country NSW Bradman Cup team. Fletcher Byrne and Charlie Miller will compete at the Bradman Cup – a competition which takes place annually between each Country Zone across NSW. Good luck boys.
As always, good luck to all players over the coming weeks. I look forward to hearing of many more successes throughout the season.

2nd XI v Orange City (Week 5)
We won the toss and elected to bat, we had a new opening pair this weekend with Ashton Nock and Sam Spliet opening the batting. Our focus this weekend was to play the correct shots and to look for the singles. Ashton and Sam got us underway quickly putting a 40-run partnership together before Sam being run out due to a good bit of fielding from City. At drinks we were 1/60 with Ashton and tom nock at the crease. In the over after drinks we had Ashton unluckily getting caught and Myself soon getting caught out after playing a false shot. We soon found a bit more runs with Mr Waterson putting in a crucial 36 runs and building partnerships throughout the innings with Hugh Shannon before he showed some great sportsmanship after nicking it to keeper which was given not out but he walked off which was applauded by both teams, Harvey, Charlie, and Ryan all played their parts for us to reach 127 runs with the loss of 7 wickets.
Our bowlers got us off to a good start keeping the opposition batters quiet and picking up the wickets when they needed to, we had all pressure on the batsman right through our innings with our aggression to attack the ball and stop singles which led to pressure on the batsman. During our innings we had a focus of attacking the stumps and not giving away any loose deliveries that can be put away which Charlie Keirle took the challenge of and ended up taking 4 wickets for 13 runs and bowling 2 maiden overs in his spell. The wickets were shared evenly throughout the group with Keirle picking up 4, Billy picking up 2, myself picking up 2 and henry and Hamish both picking up 1 each. Ensuring that we would keep our win streak rolling we won the game by 1 run with Charlie Keirle standing up and finishing the job to get the win over city.

14 Thunder v Cavaliers (Week 6)
The Thunder played some good all-round cricket on Saturday to defeat Cavaliers.
Batting first the Thunder were in early trouble but managed to turn 4 for 4 into 9 for 162 thanks to some excellent efforts from Tate Dwyer (43) and Declan Dixon (50 retired not out). Tate opened the innings and batted with a lot of commonsense as wickets fell around him. As soon as Declan joined him after the fall of the fourth wicket the pressure was put back on Cavaliers thanks to aggressive running between the wickets and bad deliveries being put away. When Tate was dismissed the score was 5 for 112 and there were still a few overs to go. Teddy Sheedy and Billy Baldwinson looked to score quickly and made a handy 12 and 21 not out respectively. Max Kenny only had a few balls to face but ran well between the wickets and helped get the score to 162.
The Thunder also bowled and fielded extremely well. There was some very good bowling from Billy Baldwinson Declan Dixon, Tate Dwyer, Sam Thomas, Nick Wood, Max Kenny and Marcus Leigo. It was especially pleasing to see Max and Marcus contributing with the ball and I am sure they will be taking more wickets as the season goes on. The standout moments in the field were supplied by keeper Tom Hughes who took a very good low chance behind the stumps and Declan Dixon who managed to throw out Sam Laird from the boundary with a direct hit.
Thanks to Mrs Wood for her help with scoring and all other parents for their support on the day.

Round 4 11/11/2023
On Saturday the 11th November Kinross Wolaroi hosted the 4th round of the ISA competition in Orange. We were up against St Stanislaus' College (SSC) and both schools have a friendly rivalry. Our Odds team had a convincing win against the SSC Evens team, 15 sets to 4. A special congratulations goes to Anabelle van Wyk and Will Hoskins for winning their singles matches 4-0, 4-0. Similarly, the Evens had a strong win against SSC Odds with a score of 17 sets to 2. A special mention goes to Tim Dakin, Will Steventon, Milli Mackay and Frankie Mitchell for winning their doubles matches 4-0, 4-0. Well done to the our ISA team and we look forward to playing SSC again next term.
Round 5 18/11/2023
On Saturday 18 November the our Evens left Kinross to play against Scots All Saints (SASC) in Bathurst. As the games started it was clear that the matches were going to be very close. Throughout the day, both schools were neck and neck, and it came down to one last doubles match. Ashton Quinn-Woonton and Phoebe Paynter were up against tough opponents and lost the first set. They came back to win the second set and it came down to a tiebreaker. Both players showed great determination and unfortunately lost the final points. We were defeated 9 sets to 10 but came away with positivity and competitiveness for next round.

KWS Bumblebees met the Central Coast Grammar School this week in a march that started very evenly, with both teams giving away nothing in their defence. It took some quick play between Greta Cunial and Sophie Dedman to crack the line and give the Bees a 1-0 half-time lead.
The second half saw KWS create many attacking opportunities on the back of good driving, with Claudia Staniforth and Daisy McKay both scoring excellent run-away tries. A second darting try to Sophie Dedman meant the Bees kept control of the game. Despite a try to the Central Coast, the Bees defended brilliantly, including great chases from Georgia Tancred, Maggie Hall and Alyssa Fergusson.
A great win to the Bees.
KWS4 (Bumblebees): 4 v CCGS: 1
Div 1
This Saturday our team headed down to Scott’s All Saints College in Bathurst for a head on game against Central Coast Grammar School.
With very limited numbers this weekend our first-grade girls had to really push to get over the line. In an intense first half, KWS went into the break 1-0 up thanks to one try from Brooke Rayner to get us off to a great start. Our second half was played with intensity with tries from Annabelle Cooper, who was back from injury with a great assist from Phoebe Smith, and Eva Bonnington from a fantastic scoot from Claudia Mason. Thank you to Grace Hosie, Greta Cunial and our superstar Eva Bonnington for stepping up this weekend. We would also like to congratulate our rep girls Katie Ivey, Lucy Carney and Lucy Robb who won a silver medal at their regional carnival in Mudgee this weekend. Overall, a great weekend close to home and a really good performance from our firsts team.

Inter A’s
Scorcher of a day at SAS but that didn’t stop the Inter A’s. Unfortunately, it was a loss but while losing three of our players for the weekend we recruited Thalia who played middle and Greta who played wing. Both girls did an amazing job playing up. Thalia scoring one of the 5 tries, with Grace Shea scoring on a scoot straight through the middle. Essie with her feet on fire stepping them left, right and centre scoring two tries. Also scoring another try was Ella Rosser our star winger.
Erica Stuart and Laila Rusten
Junior A’s
Junior As played an amazing game against Central Coast. Jackson made our team work hard for the game all week in training. At the end of the first half the score was 4-1 with Kennedy, and Grace scoring one try each, and Ava bagging an early double. Our team really gelled and worked their hardest with driving and defending on the line like they practiced in training. A cracking start. At the end of the game the final score was 8-1 with the last 4 tries scored by Minnie, Amber, and Ava with another 2. it was an amazing win. Shoutout to our try scorer Ava Rosser with the 4 tremendous tries. We played amazing and "Caught the W."

The last two weeks in between newsletters have been training and preparation for the forthcoming TRINSW/ACT Juniors Weekend on 25-26 November as well as some Parkrun Volunteering. Our Triathlon Team love our local Parkrun at Gosling Creek. The weekly 5km run is part of our training schedule and as it is a volunteer run event we try to give back each term. The Triathlon Team took on the volunteering for 11 November: marshalling, timekeeping, barcode scanning, tail walking and photographing for just over 200 runners.
In the spirit of volunteering and supporting our community Orange Triathlon Club are seeking volunteers for the forthcoming weekend. OTC requires help with jobs such as marshalling (directing athletes – a front row ticket to the racing action!) If you are able to give a few hours of your time please sign up using the link below. Thank you.

On Friday 17 November, 23 Schools and 100 riders came together for the inaugural Rocky Trail Academy Central West Schools MTB Competition. The event took place at Gaanha-bula (Mount Canobolas) on the Trail of Awesomeness and Magic Mushroom Trail. Riders had four and a half hours to ride designated parts of the tracks and get their fastest times possible. Shuttling was not permitted, so there were some tired legs from the uphill climbs.
Kinross Wolaroi took 11 riders from Years 7, 8 and 9, achieving some great results for the KWS MTB Team’s first competition. Team List: Toby Gee, Sam Commins, Oscar Chandler-Sullivan, Ollie Garard, George Nash, Lachie Turner, Daniel Rourke, Matt Lowther, Lachie Robb, Harry Chapman, Parker Lamond.
All of our riders completed at least two runs, with some managing to clock up seven runs over the time limit. In the Intermediate (Year 9 and 10) category, Toby Gee came 22nd. In the Junior (Year 7 and 8) category: Oscar Chandler-Sullivan 3rd, Ollie Garard 4th, Sam Commins 10th, Matt Lowther 19th, Daniel Rourke 28th, George Nash 39th. Kinross coming 5th out of the 23 schools in the Championship Schools points tally. The event was superbly run by Rocky Trail Academy and we look forward to competing again next year.
On Saturday the Kinross Wolaroi Rowing program attended the ISA Regatta held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.
It was a fantastic day out for all rowers for their first regatta of the season. The squad of 103 rowers performed exceedingly well, taking home the boys points score trophy, out muscling Cranbrook and Canberra Grammar who finished second and third respectively. The girls side of the program had some very strong races and made a significant contribution to the schools overall points score, helping Kinross Wolaroi take home the overall points score trophy.
The medal tally built through the day with the squad finishing the day with 10 golds, 5 silvers and 7 bronzes with a total of 22 medal winning crews.
Special mention must be made to the entire Year 9 squad who competed for the first time ever. Considering our opposition schools have rowed a complete season coming into this regatta, with a number of races already this season, our Year 9 squad delivered on the day. The Year 9 girls and boys both won the first division quad with strong performances by the other crews. It’s amazing to see our squad strength growing and great young rowers coming through the ranks.
It seems like we have an exciting season ahead. Now the squad returns to training in preparation for the next two regattas coming up over the next two weekends.
Kraken vs Water Dragons – Lost 8-5
It’s been so impressive to see the improvement in our team. Our outstanding goalie Max Laird is composed and skillful, saving many goals. Isla Ross was awarded Most Improved for her goal scoring and ability to read the game and Tilly Whitely Best and Fairest for her overall consistent efforts in attack and defense.
KWS Hydra vs Lear Jets – Lost 9-4
Hydra has made big improvements over the last few rounds. Our game sense and support of each other with our positive chat in the water is strong.
Jude Jansen awarded Most Improved for strong passing skills and Best and Fairest George Nash for his strength in producing two goals and consistency in the attack and defense.
KWS Bluebottles vs Killer whales – Lost 9-5
In our match against the opposing Killerwhales, we had to play 5 a side because of the loss of players for the second game of our double. We persisted with rotating our goalies each quarter and trying out different attacking strategies. Swimming the ball up the side passing and taking some aggressive shots. Our close loss did not make us lose hope in our team and we will continue to work on playing with strong communication, speed and teamwork.
KWS Nessies vs Bluebottles – Lost 8-3
Today was a great game playing against the Bluebottles, we had everyone in our team, and we played well. Although we lost 3-8, I believe it it was one of our best games, but we still need to work on communication and team spirit. Overall amazing performance by great teams.
KWS Killer Whales vs KWS Nessies – lost 9-5
The team faced challenges in maintaining our structure in the first half of the match, especially with the absence of Will Garard. However, we successfully regrouped, and a remarkable comeback ensued when Mack Sweetapple transitioned from the goals to the field, contributing significantly to our impressive victory.
KWS 2nds vs Platypus – Lost 10-4
We played a fierce game with 5 subs which resulted in an almost full team swap out every quarter. Although we lost, the team displayed resilience and persistence. Oli Taberner was a brick wall in goals and receives this week’s Most Improved and Scarlett Mackenzie scored an amazing goal, her first of the season, which earned her Best and Fairest. Well done, Scarlett.
KWS 1sts vs Goal Diggers – Lost 5-4
A tough game played tonight. Sam Shepherd had an incredible game in goals saving most shots on goal by the opposition. We created lots of opportunities with fit swimmers Emily Clunas, Tim Lowther and Julian Connan in attack. Billy Hall’s goal of the night was super impressive, scoring a bounce shot from 6 meters out. A close game Well done Barracudas.
