“On August 5th, selected Year 8 and 9 students, recognised for their strong Mandarin performance, participated in Chinese Immersion Day at school.
The day began with an opening ceremony featuring speeches from Year 8 School Captain Zoya, Assistant Principal Ms. Williams, and Urooj, a Hanyuqiao medallist, who shared the benefits of learning Mandarin and their personal experiences. Students enjoyed a Guzheng performance by Urooj and a Sichuan Opera face-changing show.
In Period 3, they watched a lively Mandarin puppet show, The Story of Cinderella by Carrousel Theatre. The afternoon included cultural workshops where students explored calligraphy, lacquer fan decorating, Chinese sports such as jianzi and touhu, dragon poi, and Chinese tea tasting.
It was a day full of learning, creativity, and cultural connection, leaving students inspired by Chinese traditions and language learning opportunities.”
The Year 8 Brainstorm Production was a fun and meaningful program all about stopping bullying. Through acting, teamwork, and creative activities, students learned about respect, kindness, and including others. The program had a positive impact on the cohort, helping students feel more connected, confident, and ready to support one another.
Our Year 8 and 9 students recently had the amazing opportunity to take part in a Blue Edge workshop with members of the Public Order Response Team. The session was a fantastic mix of fun, teamwork, and learning, giving students the chance to build resilience, communication, and leadership skills outside the classroom.
The officers shared their experiences and worked alongside students in activities that encouraged problem‑solving and collaboration. It was a great way for our young people to gain insight into the importance of teamwork and community connection—while also having plenty of laughs along the way.
A big thank you to the Public Order Response Team for taking the time to inspire and support our students through this engaging program.
This term, our Year 8 Mandarin students are exploring the topic of food. As part of the practical component, they had the chance to get hands-on and learn how to wrap dumplings – but with a creative twist! Instead of using dough, students practised the folding techniques using soft clay. This fun and interactive activity not only reinforced their learning about Chinese cuisine but also gave them an opportunity to experience a traditional cultural skill in a playful and engaging way.
