Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY:

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.  Don’t forget to record your book for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is due on the 4th of September.

Mathematics: Students are to work on the recall of any facts that they are not automatic in recalling.  You may like to create flash cards or skip count aloud with your child to help support their learning with this.

Remembering we are aiming to have learnt all our multiplication facts up to x12 by the end of the year. If your child can recall all of them, they can switch over to their division facts.

Inquiry: Students are working towards their Year 5 Celebration of learning in 2 weeks time. Please keep Tuesday, Week 7 in your diary.

EXHIBITION: Students will complete their fifth journal this week. It is due to be uploaded in Toddle by 5pm Sunday. Students will benefit from discussions about what their central idea and where they are up to in research.

Year 6 Graduation:  We would like to share a photo gallery of the graduating class on graduation night. We need 2 photos of your child to show how they have grown up into the students we know today. These photos can be emailed to Mrs Zadow (Zadow.jayne@goldengrove.sa.edu.au). Please include a baby photo and first day of school photo. Please have these in by the end of Term 3.

Current and Upcoming Learning

Writer’s Workshop: Year 5 students have been working on their letter writing skills and have been making application for different leadership roles for next year.

Mathematics: Students have spent time inquiring into translations, rotations and reflections and will be creating their own tessellating patterns using combinations of transformations. Next week students will be moving into identifying the features of 3D shapes.

Inquiry:

Year 5: Students are currently completing their leadership application letters. They will be inquiring into different leaders and identifying the characteristics they have, what action they have taken and what impact their actions have had on the world.

Exhibition: The Year 6 students have chosen their areas of focus that are related to their leadership positions. These areas came from thinking about the connections to community and the world. The students have written their own central idea which outlines their focus further.

PLEASE NOTE: As we learn, everything covered in lesson is being uploaded to ‘CLASS FLOW’ in Toddle. This week’s learning is under ‘EXHIBITION Week 5’. This is available on both your family and child’s profile of Toddle for 5/6Z. a reminder that if students are absent or forget their book, information is available in Toddle. Students have been placed in groups and allocated one or two mentors. Each group has emailed their mentor/s and are working on meeting with them today or in the near future.
