Around the Classrooms

L.O.T.E. – Italian
Ciao a tutti,
Hope you are keeping well and have had a great start to Term 3 with your child /children. The students will continue to build on their prior knowledge through new topics and learning activities.
The Preps have begun the term by participating in their weekly Italian lessons enthusiastically and joyfully. They have been introduced to the text ‘Ecco Pinocchio.’ and to parts of the body vocabulary as well as some very popular Italian expressions. They have also cheerfully played games and freely joined in singing simple Italian songs.
The students in Years One and Two have used familiar language to ask each other’s names and to enquire as to how they were feeling. Their topic is ‘Planning a birthday party’ so they have begun the term by learning the Italian vocabulary for the days of the week, the months of the year, the date and the numbers. They have readily participated in singing the topic-based songs and have eagerly joined in the classroom games.
In Years Three and Four the students have begun working on a unit of work which focuses on Pasta. They have started the term by learning the names of the many types of pasta shapes and the different brands of pasta. They have used the newly-acquired vocabulary to create a poster. The students will learn and understand cultural differences between the regions of Italy in relation to which pasta shapes and types of sauces are preferred. In pairs, they will complete a research assignment on a region of Italy and its signature pasta dish and sauce with an Italian component and illustrations. The students have happily joined in playing the game Around The World which reinforces their general knowledge and have eagerly completed the interactive tasks on Duo Lingo.
In Years Five and Six the students have begun the term by orally sharing their personal profile in Italian, giving details about themselves, using familiar language. They have started working on a unit of work which aims to introduce the students to fashion in Italy. They have worked in pairs to complete a list with the names of famous fashion designers and have written a paragraph on a designer of their choice. Specifically, they will consolidate their previously-acquired vocabulary and will learn the new language associated with organizing a fashion parade. The students have happily joined in playing the game Pacman, completing online quizzes and completing many tasks on Duo Lingo which have deepened their knowledge and understanding of the Italian language and grammar.
We are looking forward to a great term and continuing to have fun learning.
A presto.
