Year 5 News

Dear Families,

Already beyond half-way through the term, we cannot believe it!

The Grade 5’s have been busy, as always; we inducted and welcomed a new group of Peer Mediators who are doing a great job out in the yard at recess and lunch time, introduced Book Club and reciprocal reading within the English Block, celebrated Book Week last week and we’ve been catching-up with our Grade 1-2 Buddies!

Our English unit about persuasive writing has come to a close, with some passionate yet respectful Philosophical Chairs debates taking place. We have begun a unit on Poetry, delving into the structure and rhythm of different poems and albums.

In Mathematics we have been continuing our unit on multiplication using the area model and revising statistics for use in everyday life.

Our Investigations unit about sustainability has seen the Grade 5s planning and developing robotic hands from sustainable products. Each student has had on opportunity to share to their learning group either their robotic hand or their PEEL paragraphs.

Finally, in Wellbeing we are exploring recognising strong emotions in ourselves and others.

An early Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads, carers, grandfathers, uncles and father-figures in our community.

The Year 5 Team,

Anne Louise Kiteley, Caitlin Alagona, Josh Mifsud, Steph Marangos, Lucy Cameron

  • A reminder that students should not be taking any packaged food outside during break times, it is unfortunate to see the amount of rubbish in our yard. Students are given time before breaks to eat and should be taking any remaining food items out to the the Learning Street or in front of the canteen.
  • Please pack a healthy fruit or vegetable snack everyday.
  • Students are reminded to fill in their dairy when they read, teachers are checking diaries every week.
