Principal's Message

Riverwalk Primary School is a child safe community.
We acknowledge the Wathaurong People, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we teach and learn, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Wominjeka!
Dear families,
It’s been another busy and productive few weeks at Riverwalk. From excursions and curriculum days, to Book Week and DadFit, it’s been great to see students, staff and our community coming together in different ways across the term.
Book Week & Parade
Last week we celebrated Book Week, concluding with our annual Book Parade. Thankfully, the weather held out, allowing us to host the event outdoors. As our school continues to grow, having the parade outside gave students and families the space to fully enjoy the celebration. A big thank you to our families for the effort that went into costumes, and to our staff for making the week such a positive experience built around a love of reading.
DadFit Returns
Our DadFit program relaunched earlier this term, with over 20 dads and father figures signing up to take part. It was great to see such a strong turnout and a positive atmosphere as the group got started and we’re pleased to continue offering opportunities for families to connect in meaningful and active ways.
Curriculum Day – VTLM 2.0 Focus
On our recent Curriculum Day, staff engaged in professional learning focused on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0. The day introduced key elements of the VTLM 2.0 and supported staff to begin exploring how it can guide consistent, high-impact teaching across the school. Building this shared understanding will continue to be a focus as we head into our upcoming School Review.
Foundation – Toys Over Time
Our Foundation students recently took part in the Toys Over Time incursion, exploring how toys have changed across generations. Through hands-on activities focusing on imagination, movement, construction and skill-building, students learned about the materials, styles and games that children used in the past. It was a highly engaging experience that sparked great conversations back in the classroom.
District Athletics –
As shared in our last newsletter, our District Athletics team represented the school with outstanding effort and pride. We wanted to take a moment to once again acknowledge all the students who participated. A huge shoutout to Selena (Year 4) who competed in 5 events and came 1st in ALL of them – what an incredible achievement!
Traffic and Parking Reminder
A reminder to families to avoid parking in the bus zone on Coldstream Avenue next to the kindergarten. Several families have received fines recently, and we want to ensure everyone is aware. We understand that traffic and road safety continue to be concerns, and we are in ongoing communication with Wyndham City Council to advocate for improvements. We also have a meeting scheduled with John Lister in the coming weeks where we will share feedback from our community and continue discussions about possible solutions.
Can we also please remind families about the 2 minute drop and run zone. This is strictly for drop offs only where you do not leave your car. Please do not park your car and get out of the vehicle. If you are wanting to drop your child off and walk into the school with them, please use another zone.
New Graduate Teachers – Term 4
We are excited to be welcoming five new graduate teachers to Riverwalk in Term 4. Please join us in welcoming:
- Dione O’Brien (Year 3)
- Sophie Martin (already commenced in Year 2)
- Jessica Zuniga
- Rachel Wilson
- Ana Mitchell (Year 1)
We look forward to having them join our team and getting to know our students and families as they begin their teaching journeys with us.
Thank you for your continued support as we move through the second half of the term. We look forward to sharing more about our School Review preparations and talking to families at an informal morning tea later this week to gather your feedback.
Regards,
Barry Devlin
