Inclusive Education

What does Inclusion at Pilgrim look like?

Inclusion at Pilgrim is about awareness of self and others. When students have awareness of themselves as learners and active members of the community, they are positioned for lifelong learning and growth through positive partnerships.

Pilgrim applies Universal Design for learning as an approach to teaching, learning and assessment that removes barriers to learning, participation and engagement for all learners.

The Inclusive Education Team partners with teachers and students to ensure multiple means of engagement, presentation, activation and expression in learning, through Universal Design. This encompasses Australian curriculum content and opportunities to develop our school values.

This approach supports students to become self-aware, independent learners, activating their strengths when approaching challenging tasks, and as a basis for lifelong learning.

The Inclusion Team works with students both inside and outside of learning spaces to extend and enrich learning through evidence-based programs, including MiniLit, MacqLit and Back to Front Maths, strategies to develop skills in executive function and social communication. Practical application through gardening, cooking, fibre and visual arts and collaborative group work enables students to enhance their learning through real-life and interactive experiences.

Inclusion at Pilgrim means our students feel a sense of belonging, the courage to explore the world we live in and to serve others in the local and wider community. All this together, with families and educators in partnership, students at Pilgrim can truly flourish.
