Science Fun

Don't forget Science Week is NEXT WEEK

Our Science Team and students have been busy in the classroom!

As part of the CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools Partnership, engineer John Campbell visited the Year 9 STEM Elective class to share his real-world experience in the field. Drawing from his career at Telstra, John offered valuable insights into the life of an engineer and the many pathways a career in engineering can open up. Students came prepared with thoughtful questions, eager to learn where a future in engineering might take them.

To kick off our Geology Unit in Year 8, Educators from the Victorian Space Science Education Centre delivered a hands-on introduction to geology focusing on the minerals, energy types and forces that are involved in rock formation.

  • Students used a rock cookbook to create a ‘recipe’ to create different types of rocks.
  • Identified rocks and the minerals that make up the rocks ‘ingredients’.
  • Examined the different types of energy and forces acting on rock formation .
  • Explored the real word applications of minerals in everyday items.

We're excited to have STEMania! coming to our school for National Science Week 2025! Year 7s and 8s will enjoy a comedic performance by professional actors to kick off science week at BSC.

As part of their Year 10 Chemistry studies, students have been exploring different types of chemical reactions and how to identify when a reaction has occurred.

Drawing on their understanding of neutralisation, they investigated the reaction between acids and bases of varying concentrations.

By adding a universal indicator, students created a vibrant rainbow of colours that visually represented the full pH scale.
