Infants and Primary

INFANTS
Our Infants students are all getting excited about the events happening towards the end of the term and are very busy preparing for these. Classes have been rehearsing for performances for our special performance assembly in Week 10. All students are enjoying getting their groove on as they practice in preparation for this and are looking forward to being up on stage and showing off their class acts.
The weather is warming up, and Spring is in the air. With this change of season, lots of jumpers and jackets are getting left behind at school. Please make sure names are clearly labelled on all clothing so that items can be returned to the right person. Hats are also encouraged on warmer days. At the start of Term 4, we will re-introduce our ‘No hat, no play’ rule, however students are encouraged to wear a hat in term 3, especially on warmer days.
Kindy/Year 1
K/1 students have been working really hard on creating some artworks in preparation for our 155 year celebration later this term. With Ms Ewan, they have been drawing, painting and colouring to make some really creative pieces to share with our visitors. It is fantastic to see students being so proud of their finished artworks and reflect on the effort they have put in to producing them.
K/1 loved making pumpkin scones with Mrs Corcoran during cooking recently. Students have the best time in the kitchen, pouring, stirring, mixing and tasting their creations. Many students hadn’t had pumpkin scones before and were surprised at how tasty their cooking was!
In Science, we are exploring things that move and different forces. We have found so many push and pull forces in things we are doing all the time, every day and in every part of our lives. We enjoyed building domino stacks and had fun making them change direction by placing them carefully and considering the direction of the force. Lots of fun hands on learning in Science!
Year 1/2
We are now well and truly engrossed in our learning in the Year 1/2 classroom!
In English, we’ve been exploring what life might be like for people who have moved to Australia as asylum seekers. Through a range of engaging stories, we’ve been learning to understand different people’s contexts and perspectives, helping us build empathy and awareness of the diverse world around us. The students have shown thoughtful curiosity and deepened their understanding of what it means to start a new life in a different place.
We’ve also been practising a daily writing routine called “Racecar Writing”, where students write as much as they can on whiteboards in response to a creative writing prompt. It’s been amazing to see their writing stamina and creativity grow each day! When we compare our current writing to our Week 1 efforts, the progress is clear, we’re developing into confident and enthusiastic writers.
Alongside this, we’ve been learning how to write compound and complex sentences to help make our writing more detailed and interesting. Students are working hard to practise using conjunctions to connect their ideas and expand their sentences with more meaning.
In Maths, we’ve been exploring arrays and how they can help us solve multiplication problems. This week, we’ve started looking at “sharing into equal groups”, otherwise known as division. Students have been using concrete materials like blocks and counters to model division problems and write matching number sentences. It's been great to see their problem-solving skills in action!
During Sport, we’ve been learning foundational netball skills, which we hope will come in handy at future touch football netball carnivals. The students are loving the chance to build their coordination and teamwork on the court.
Lastly, we’ve been hard at work rehearsing for our Smart & Drama performance, which we are very excited to share with our friends and families in Week 10. Stay tuned! It’s going to be a fantastic show!
Well done to all our Year 1/2 students for their enthusiasm and effort as we move into the second half of Term 3!

Year 3/4 – Weeks 4, 5 & 6
It has been fantastic to be back in the classroom after two weeks of leave, and I’m proud of the energy and effort 3/4 have shown across all areas of learning.
In English, we have been reading The Callers with great enthusiasm. Our focus has been on figurative language and characterisation, and the class has been quick to pick up on the author’s use of imagery, description, and dialogue. It’s been great to see students making thoughtful observations and using these ideas to strengthen their own writing.
In Mathematics, we’ve been exploring symmetry and 2D space, building on prior knowledge while adding new skills step by step. Alongside this, students have continued their mentals program, which helps consolidate revision and gradually introduces more challenging concepts.
One of the highlights of the past fortnight has been the start of our SMART drama performances. The class has really thrown themselves into their roles, showing both creativity and teamwork. It’s been a joy to watch their confidence grow each session.
Cooking with Miss Corcoran has once again been a hit, with students enjoying the chance to measure, mix, and taste their creations while learning valuable life skills in the kitchen.
Our Genius Hour projects are now underway, and students are producing some truly exciting and original work. Their curiosity, creativity, and independence are shining through as they develop their projects and share their passions with the class.
Overall, 3/4 have shown resilience, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge themselves. I am looking forward to seeing how they continue to build on their successes in the coming weeks.

Year 4/5
The past few weeks have been filled with exciting learning and activities for our students. In English, classes have continued their study of Wonder, with a particular focus on reading fluency and sentence-level writing. Students have enjoyed the chance to really step into the world of the novel, while also strengthening the precision and flow of their own writing.
In Mathematics, the spotlight has been on multiplication and division, with plenty of opportunities for problem-solving tasks that stretch thinking and build confidence; while also exploring the relationship between the two operations.
Across other learning areas, Science lessons have explored life cycles, sparking curiosity as students investigated the fascinating stages of growth and change in mammals such as lions, horses, and dogs. The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program with Mrs Corcoran and Mrs Apps has been a highlight, giving students the chance to learn about food from garden to plate. Students loved creating baked pancakes, which were a hit! In Sport, students have been honing their skills in Rugby League, League Tag and Netball, showing great teamwork and determination in anticipation of the Boorowa Touch/Netball Carnival, coming up next term.
Beyond the classroom, preparations are well underway for our new SMART and Drama showcase, with students eagerly rehearsing and developing their performance. Co-curricular opportunities have also been in abundance, with many students proudly representing the school at the Trent Barrett Shield in Rugby League, and some of our Year 4/5 students taking part in the spectacular Southern Stars production. Each of these experiences has provided not only a chance for students to shine but also to build confidence, friendships and a strong sense of pride in their school community.
Overall, it's been a busy few weeks as we head into the tail end of the term. If you have any questions, concerns, or queries, please don't hesitate to reach out.

K–6
The last few weeks have been full of energy and achievement right across K–6.
All classes have been working hard on their SMART drama performances, and it’s been impressive to see the confidence and creativity that’s coming through. On top of this, many of our Stage 3 students are currently away representing our school at Southern Stars. This is a huge opportunity, and we’re so proud of the commitment and determination they’ve shown leading up to the event. They’ve trained hard, worked as a team, and are now experiencing something they’ll remember for years to come.
In PBL, our focus has been on reflective practice. Students have been learning how to pause, think about their actions, and consider how they can make better choices moving forward. It’s been encouraging to see students taking this on board and applying it both in the classroom and out in the playground. More and more, we’re seeing students live out our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Participation, which is what makes our school culture strong.
Our new lunchtime routine is running well. Some students eat first before heading off to play and then swapping, and it’s making a big difference to learning in the afternoon. Eating properly helps fuel the brain, and we’re making sure students are in the best place to succeed. We are still reminding a few to keep their recess food for recess instead of eating it all at once, but overall it’s been a step in the right direction.
The sports shed routine has also been a real success. Our leaders and sports captains have stepped up to take responsibility for handing out and collecting the equipment, and it’s running smoothly. Students are playing more organised games, and it’s great to see leadership and responsibility being built into everyday school life.
Another highlight has been Alice Apps representing our school at the Public Speaking competition. It was fantastic to see how much pride she took in representing our school. Well done, Alice!
We also want to congratulate the students who received classroom awards over the past few weeks. These awards celebrate students who have been making strong contributions in their learning and consistently showing our school values:
And a very special mention to our Principal’s Award winner, Coby. Coby consistently upholds our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Participation. He’s a role model in every sense—reliable, hardworking, and supportive of his classmates. Whether it’s in the classroom, the playground, or on the sporting field, Coby gives his all and does it with respect. He is a student our whole school can be proud of.
In closing, it’s been fantastic to see our students continuing to shine both at school and beyond. With our Stage 3 students currently at Southern Stars, representing us on such a big stage, it’s a great reminder of the talent and pride we have across K–6. When our students live out our values of Respect, Responsibility, and Participation, they show that there is no limit to what they can achieve.
Mr Rowley.
