3-Year-Old Kindergarten

Visit to the farm

ELC 3 visited the farm on the north campus of the College to see the baby goats. The children walked with their teachers, parent helpers, Mr Ken Berry, and his year 12 helpers, to safely cross the road at the pedestrian crossing. Once at the farm, the children could see chickens, goats, geese, alpacas, and rabbits. The children were able to pat the goats and alpacas, and feed them some leaves and sugar cane.

Cooking classes

The children have also been busy with various cooking activities. They made “Donkey Drops” with Elizabeth’s Nana. The children took turns to break up biscuits inside ziplock bags with rolling pins and spoons. More ingredients were added to the bags, and the children helped to shake them together. Then, they each rolled up a small ball and dropped it into coconut to coat it. The children learned about size and comparisons through the different-sized measuring cups that were used.

4-Year-Old Kindergarten

Learning about recycling and making recycled paper

The children have been learning about recycling, the process of turning used waste and materials into new products.  They have been practicing being responsible citizens and caretakers of the earth.  They have taken part in sorting different recycling and non-recycling materials into the correct bins, learning about the words, ‘reduce, reuse and recycle,’ and are learning to make recycled paper.

Winter wonderland

The children have been making snowflakes out of salt, glue and colour.  Lots of comprehension, following instructions, fine motor skills and experimenting is involved in the snowflake making process.  Exploring shaving foam was a lot of fun as we learned about Winter and the snow.  They enjoyed hands-on open-ended sensory exploration where they were able to manipulate, scoop, draw and squeeze the foam in all different ways.

Farm Visit

Thank you to Mr Ken Berry, his year 11, year 12 students and parent helpers for walking the ELC 4 children across to the North Campus, throughout the excursion and back safely to our classroom.  The children saw chickens, geese, ducks, goats, alpacas and a bunny rabbit.  It was a cold, frosty morning filled with laughter and learning.
