Personal Development Skills

As part of their Personal Development Skills (PDS) unit, Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students took part in a special project with Moreland Kindergarten.

Over three visits, each student was paired with a child from the 4-year-old room, and spent time getting to know their buddy in order to create a personalised storybook for them. This hands-on experience helped students build social awareness, empathy, and communication skills through meaningful connections with younger children.

It was a really good visit—I genuinely enjoyed it. I feel proud knowing that each time I go, I make my buddy happy.
The highlight for me was spending time outdoors with the children, especially seeing how much my buddy enjoyed us playing together. I also learned a lot about the different behaviours and personalities of the kids and what helps keep them engaged.

I really enjoyed spending time with the children, especially reading books to them.

One of the highlights was watching them play games like tag and soccer—they were full of energy. I chose to visit the childcare centre because I wanted to develop my skills in working with children. I gained a better understanding of their interests and how they like to learn and interact.
