Week 8, Term 2
In the classroom this week...
Prep
Students will finishing putting their teddy bear artwork together as well as construct a plate of ‘picnic food’ such as a cupcake, lollies and fairy bread.
Grade 1
Students will be looking again at Australian artist Anna Blatman and her ‘Peabody’ bird artwork. They will be inspired by her colours, shapes and design when creating their own collage.
Grade 2
Students will be continuing their stitched bird artwork, adding details to the bird and its surroundings.
Grade 3/4

Students will be looking closely at Howard Arkley’s work. Using the app ‘Brushes Redux’ students will trace and then print a house façade of their choice ready to add colour and details next week.
Grade 5
Students will begin a new project this week, focussing on the Snowy River as a connection to their recent camp. They will look at birds eye views of the river and its surroundings and design their own patterned design ready to emboss onto tin.
Grade 6
Students will be finishing the stitching around their famous Australian person, focussing on the colour, balance and composition of their final design. They will then begin a collaborative artwork with all Grade 5/6s looking at Indigenous flora in the Manningham area and painting their designs onto timber panels.
Prep
Students are continuing to explore music and sound by developing their understanding of steady beat. They will learn and perform a movement routine that follow beat-based patterns. Students will continue to practise playing rhythms on clapping sticks, applying their knowledge of dynamics (loud and soft) to their playing. Students are also continuing to learn and sing songs composed and inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
Grade 1
Students are continuing to explore pitch through musical games that help them recognise and perform how sounds move higher or lower. They are also learning about music from different times and places, investigating how culture is expressed through music and dance. This learning supports their understanding of the CBL Big Idea of Diversity, as they discover and appreciate the variety of musical traditions around the world.
Grade 2
Students will showcase their learning so far this term by rehearsing and performing rhythms and melodies on tuned instruments such as glockenspiels. They will demonstrate correct playing technique, maintain a steady beat, follow musical patterns, and perform as part of an ensemble. Students will also explore different ways of playing their instruments and how this affects the sound quality, recording their sound explorations using symbolic notation.
Grade 3/4
Students are finalising their GarageBand loop compositions, demonstrating their understanding of the musical style of Funk. In groups, they are also creating short movement pieces to express the 'feel' of their music through dance. Classes that are further along in this project will begin to explore the musical style of Calypso, deepening their understanding of how different musical styles create different moods and grooves. Some classes are also starting to learn their songs for Matilda Jr..
Grade 5/6
Students are continuing with their song writing projects. Classes are at different stages of the process with some students finalising their lyrics and chords, whilst others are beginning to arrange and record their song in Garageband. Some classes will also begin learning their Matilda Jr. songs.
