Assistant Principal Report

As a school, our work is to always plan forward in supporting our students, staff and the school community. There have been a lot of activities and events happening at Epping Secondary College in recent weeks, some designed to support school safety, some attended in paying respect, and others organised to continue building positive relationships across the College.

Recent Lockdown Drill

On Wednesday May 21 Epping Secondary College undertook a whole-school lockdown drill. Emergency drills are important requirements that all schools undertake in ensuring that the school community is prepared in the event that a lockdown or evacuation is required. Our students followed our school values during this time very well and we thank them for, and acknowledge, their cooperation.

National Sorry Day

On Monday the 26th of May, seven students from Epping Secondary College went to the City of Whittlesea Council offices to attend a Reconciliation Week/Sorry Day event. The day started with a smoking ceremony.

We then went inside the council offices, a one-minute silence was held for those who were affected by the Stolen Generation, then we listened to some speeches. We had a few people come up and speak to us about how it is important to remember our history and learn from it, and how we should commemorate those who were affected during a period of history which is somewhat overlooked in society today. We then went on a ‘Sorry Walk’ at each of the four plaques, we collectively said ‘We are sorry’ to those who we affected during the Stolen Generation.

Year 10 Camp

Our Year 10 students recently returned from an unforgettable three-night camp to Phillip Island, filled with excitement, laughter, and personal growth. The group embraced every moment, enjoying an incredible range of activities including mountain bike riding, laser tag, ten pin bowling, beach games, and the magical Penguin Parade.

Throughout the camp, students consistently demonstrated the school values of respect, resilience, and care. Activity providers were quick to praise the group, commenting on their outstanding behaviour, teamwork, and positive attitude. It was clear to all that our students are not only adventurous but also exceptional young people.

A massive thank you to all the staff who attended and supported the students throughout the camp. Your dedication made this fantastic experience possible.

We are proud of every student who attended and look forward to continuing to offer opportunities for growth throughout their schooling journey.

Year 7 Camp

Building Resilience and Connections

In Week 7, June 4-6, our Year 7 students embarked on a memorable camp experience that brought them closer together and pushed them out of their comfort zones. Over three days, students participated in a range of exciting activities including archery, abseiling, orienteering, karaoke, and team challenges.

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to form new friendships, strengthen existing ones, and develop important life skills in a supportive environment. Staff were incredibly proud of the positive attitude, respectful behaviour, and enthusiasm shown by all students. The camp experience truly reflected the spirit of Epping Secondary College— respect, resilience and care.

Year 10 Wellbeing Day

On Thursday, 12th June, all Year 10 students came together for a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Day, and what a fantastic success it was for everyone involved.

The day began with a Year Level Assembly where students received key updates, celebrated cohort achievements, and were reminded of important expectations heading into the exam period. It set a positive and purposeful tone for what was to come.

Students then took part in a highly engaging workshop focused on Mental Health and Sleep. Held as a full cohort session, it encouraged students to reflect on the importance of sleep, mental wellbeing, and daily habits that support a healthy lifestyle. The workshop was informative, relevant, and filled with practical strategies students could use right away.

Following this, students participated in two targeted workshops on Healthy vs Unhealthy Relationships and Drug Awareness & Emergency Response. Delivered by our knowledgeable school nurses and wellbeing staff, these sessions provided honest, age-appropriate information designed to empower students with the tools and understanding needed to make safe, informed choices.

To round off the day, the entire year level came together once again for a Physical Activity and Engagement session. This fun and energetic session encouraged students to move, connect, and enjoy themselves, a perfect way to end a day focused on wellbeing in all its forms.

The maturity, engagement, and enthusiasm shown by students throughout the day was outstanding. A huge thank you to all staff, presenters, and students who contributed to making the Health and Wellbeing Day such a memorable and meaningful experience.
