Over the next couple of weeks, students and staff will be invited to participate in a survey to share their colour preferences for the bathroom refurbishments, thanks to our VSBA Capital Works grant. Our Project Consultant has already selected a range of swatches, based on the colours within the school and the local environment. The colours are for flooring, cubicles, doors, pipes and accents, and now it’s time for students and staff to contribute.
The school community can also view the swatches in person at the front entrance, and we encourage everyone to take a look. The project is really starting to come together, and is going out for tender this week.
Reconciliation Week ends on Tuesday June 3. As a way of acknowledging the importance of this week, the bell music has consisted of songs performed by Indigenous artists. Some of the songs are re-makes of classics and while I never particularly liked John Farnham’s song, “You’re the Voice”, I have grown fond of Mitch Tambo’s version in Gamilaraay language. The library has also had books on display, that are by Indigenous authors, and/or explore culture, issues and story.
The month of June is significant for the LGBTQIA+ community, with Pride Month beginning on 1st June. While Pride Month commemorates the worldwide movement to support LGBTQIA+ equality, it is also a good opportunity to remember how important acceptance is and to celebrate the diversity of people. It is the differences between us that make for a rich and interesting community.
On a local level, our next Student Free Day for report writing purposes is on June the 10th.
