National Sorry Day & National Reconciliation Week
Wominjeka/Welcome
Dear Truganina Community, Wominjeka!
As we come together on Bunurong Country, we pause to acknowledge and reflect on two significant moments in our national calendar:
National Sorry Day – Monday 26 May 2025
National Sorry Day is a time to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were forcibly removed from their families and communities — the Stolen Generation.
It is a moment to honour their strength, resilience, and enduring connection to culture and Country. On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning, and walking alongside First Nations peoples in the spirit of truth-telling and healing.
National Reconciliation Week – Tuesday 27 May to Tuesday 3 June 2025
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
This year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next”, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present, and future.
Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. As a community on Bunurong Country, we pay our deepest respects to the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation. We honour their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture and extend our respect to Elders past and present.
Throughout the week, we encourage everyone to:
• Take time to engage with stories from First Nations voices.
• Reflect on what reconciliation means in our lives.
• Support or participate in events and learning opportunities.
Let us walk together for a better future.
