Year 1/2 News

Learning Centre One
Welcome back, everyone!
It’s hard to believe we’re already beginning Term 3 — the year is flying by! It’s been wonderful to see the students return with such enthusiasm and a genuine eagerness to learn. They've settled back into school routines smoothly, and their positive energy has set a fantastic tone for the term ahead.
Literacy:
In literacy we have been looking at texts written by Jol and Kate Temple. Each learning group has been focusing on a different text that is looking at a variety of different skills such as noun groups, adverbs, pronouns, acronyms and a range of comprehension strategies. The students have enjoyed looking at different texts each day and are very excited to meet the authors on Monday.
Math:
In math we have been learning about shapes. Students have learnt about what the sides and vertices are of polygons. This week they’ve been looking at parallel lines, irregular and regular shapes, with the activities being sorting, cutting and pasting shapes into the correct categories.
Religion:
During Religion students have been looking at images of God and what they tell us about belonging to God’s family. Students have had to reflect on questions such as how God is joy to them and how God is light to them. They’ve delved deep into reflecting and have been able to show the meaning of joy and light in a creative way.
Inquiry:
Through inquiry we’ve been looking at what the internet is and what it means to be online. Students have been focusing on how they can be safe online and who we should play online games with. We’ve had discussions about what personal information is and who we can share and not share our information with as well as the type of information.
World Principal Day 1/08/25
The students in 1/2 acknowledged Justin and all that he does for us by presenting him with heartfelt letters, thoughtful notes, creative drawings, and even some fun ideas about what he might buy if he had one million dollars! It was a special way to show their admiration and appreciation for everything Justin contributes to our school community. His dedication and hard work never goes unnoticed. We know that, along with us in 1/2, you’ll join us in thanking Justin for his ongoing support and the positive impact he makes each and every day.
Reading Awards:
Our students' in 1/2 will be recieving awards for their nights of reading. It has been great to celebrate their achievements and nights of reading. Congratulations everyone! Please make sure you are reading each night and that readers are returned every Wednesday to be changed.
Reminders:
- Playground Use After School: The playground is not open after school during pickup time. Please remind your child to head straight to you and avoid playing on the equipment. Your support is greatly appreciated.
- Ball games: At the end of the day students' shouldn't be engaging in ball games due to the amount of traffic within the school grounds, as it risks injury to others.
- iPads: Students are expected to bring their iPads fully charged each day, as they are an essential tool for learning.
- Brain Food: Students have a brain food break at 10:00 AM. Please pack a healthy snack such as fruit or vegetables for this time.
- Cooler Weather: As we move into winter, please ensure that jumpers, jackets, and beanies are clearly labelled with your child’s name on them.
