We are excited to launch DCS Run Club and Gym Sessions this term! Run Club is open to all Year 8 and 9 students, regardless of fitness level—whether you are chasing a personal best or just after a morning walk and chat, all are welcome. It runs Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30–8:15am, meeting at the Splash carpark playground. Expect a warm-up, a 30-minute out-and-back run or walk (turning at 15 minutes so everyone finishes together), and a cool down—plus optional quick showers at Splash before walking to school. Our goal is to train together, build friendships and maybe even take part in a few fun runs! For those keen on improving strength and technique, Gym Sessions are held Monday mornings (7:30–8:15am) and Wednesday afternoons (3:15–4:15pm), fully supervised by Luke or Zac.
We have launched several new subject options this term across Years 7–9. Our new Year 9 Engineering major is delivered in partnership with Australis Engineering and begins with a client-based challenge to design a toy or fidget spinner, giving students hands-on experience in the engineering process. Also new is our Year 9 Materials major, led by Mr Scott, offering students the opportunity to work in wood and fabric as they explore construction and design. We are pleased to welcome Mr Tadgh Treanor to the team, teaching our new Year 7/8 Digital Animation class, an exciting and creative subject that is already sparking enthusiasm. Lastly, our new Year 9 Psychology minor gives students an engaging introduction to human behaviour and the brain.
The Beyond program for our Year 9 students has had an exciting start to the term, with students stepping out of their comfort zones and challenging themselves in new ways.
Last week, both girls' tribes travelled to Launceston to visit the Beta Park Bouldering Gym. The experience was a great success, with many students surprising themselves by completing more difficult climbs than they had expected. There was a healthy dose of competition as students pushed to beat their own climbs; attempting again and again, learning the value of persistence and determination.
It was incredibly inspiring to see the joy and pride on students' faces as they conquered climbs they had been working hard to complete. Even more uplifting was the way they gathered around one another, offering encouragement and celebrating each other's achievements.
Now it is the boys’ turn. We look forward to hearing about their adventure when they return!
