Write a book in a day

It’s that time of year again. Time to register to join a team and accomplish something truly amazing – completing an entire book from scratch to publication in 1 DAY !
On Friday 22nd August, Ballarat High School Library will again host our annual Write a Book in a Day. This 12 hour event is open to students from Year 7 to 11. Students will work in teams of 7 to 10 students and are given set parameters including 2 human characters, 1 non-human character, a setting and an issue. They then plan the book in their team, with lots of negotiating and voting to make decisions. Each team member will then write one chapter. Some students will then do the cover and inside illustrations while others help with the proofreading and editing. By the end of the day the books are collated into digital files and submitted to be shared with patients in Children’s hospitals throughout Australia. The event also involves some fundraising towards research into Childhood Cancers through The Kids Cancer Project.
The day helps students strengthen their friendships and develop new ones, develop their negotiating and leadership skills, flex their creativity and generally have a lot of fun.
We are holding a meeting at lunchtime on Monday 4th August for students to find out more, ask questions and organise their teams. If you think this sounds like something your child may be interested in, please encourage them to come to the Library to find out more about it.
