Principal Team Updates
from everyone's desk.
We are very proud to offer wide range opportunities for our students which support them to excel in many different areas of interest or passion for them. Here are just a few examples of how we live our school value of 'Excellence' (striving for our personal best, and taking pride in our achievements)...
SAYEMBARA LISAN
This state-wide Indonesian competition is an excellent opportunity for students to represent our school, showcase their speaking and language skills and build their confidence in speaking a second language.
We had two third prize award winners this year.
Level II (Year 3/4) – Reyansh (Rey) Sanghvi 4LJ
Level III (Year 5/6) – Nithya (Nithya) Maanasa Achyutuni
All students who participated in the initial in-school assessments with Mary-Ellen Dowling, will receive a certificate at the Week 5 assembly. The celebration morning tea will be Week 4 at recess in the Indonesian classroom. Thanks to Bu Webster for all your time and efforts in organising this event, and running many rehearsal sessions during break times.
WAKAKIRRI
Students who participate in this performing arts festival are involved in telling a story through dance and music. After weeks of rehearsal with the wonderful Ros, Mrs Watterson and Mrs Smith, students will preform at the Frankston Arts Centre, in front of a panel of judges and a large audience. We wish our Wakakirri team all the best for the big day on August 13!
WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY
Some of our senior students have just completed this fun and creative writing program to extend their writing skills. The day involves students working as a team to plan, draft, and publish and an imaginative picture story book. Thanks to Ms Fraser (one of our High Ability Practice Leaders) and Miss Theunissen for organising the event and leading the students through the process. This year, they produced two books - 'What a Trip!' and 'Lost in the Library'. These will be shared digitally, and each student that participated will receive a hard copy of their team's book.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all students who participated in Division Cross Country - what an excellent example of striving for your personal best. And a special mention to our two students that made it to the next stage and competed in the State Cross Country - Riley Yorke and Chloe Callinan - a wonderful achievement!
MATHS OLYMPIAD (Year 5/6) and MATHS EXPLORERS (Year 3/4)
A selected number of our passionate Mathematicians have been participating in these 'Olympiads', which consist of four separate contests held approximately one month apart between May and September. The overall aim is to encourage students to develop important mathematical problem solving skills in an enjoyable environment. As each of the contests is a month apart, there is plenty of time for practice and improvement. A huge thank you to Mr Bouris (one of our High Ability Practice Leaders) who has had many early morning starts to run teaching and preparation sessions. Your extra work in helping our students achieve their best in the competitions is much appreciated!
ICAS
Over the next two weeks, many students will be involved in ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) for Maths and English. Students from all over Australia (and the world) can take part in these tests that are designed to recognise academic excellence, challenge students, and give them a chance to show what they know. All students that participate receive a certificate and individual results which provide insights into their strengths and areas for improvement.
