Term 3 Week 1 Greeting

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful winter break. From what I’ve heard, the holiday program was a huge success—Team Kids even had a record-breaking 60 children attend on one day last week! It’s lovely to see the students return with enthusiasm and ready to learn. As always, they have settled in remarkably well. However, we have noticed some illnesses going around. We kindly ask that you continue to keep your child at home if they are unwell—this is truly the quickest and most effective way for them to recover and return to school healthy and ready to engage.　３学期がスタートしました。みなさん冬休みはいかがだったでしょうか。ホリデー中のTeam Kidsではこれまでの最多参加人数の６０人に達した日があったとのこと。ホリデープログラムはこのお休み中も賑やかだったようです。毎学期のことながら、ホリデー明けとは思えないほど子供たちは落ち着いた様子で月曜日の朝を過ごしていました。しかし、休み明けからすでに体調を崩している生徒がたくさんいるようです。早い回復を目指して、体調が悪い時にはしっかり休みましょう。

Prep 100 Days of School

Next Monday is a very special occasion—our Prep students will be celebrating their first 100 days of school! This is such an exciting milestone, and we are incredibly proud of how far they’ve come. To mark the day, our Prep students will join the whole-school assembly dressed in outfits themed around the number 100. I absolutely can’t wait to see the creative and fun costumes on the day! A heartfelt congratulations to our wonderful Prep students, and an enormous thank you to our Prep teaching team for making every school day full of learning, discovery, and joy. We also extend our gratitude to our families for supporting our youngest learners in their first year of primary school.　来週の月曜日に、プレップの生徒たちは「学校１００日目」のお祝いを控えております。小学校に入学してから早いものですでに１００日が経ったのですね。そんな特別な日をお祝いするために、来週の月曜日にはプレップの生徒たちは「１００」をテーマにし、ドレスアップをする予定です。どんな格好で全校集会に参加してくれるのでしょうか。とても楽しみです。大きな節目を迎えることができたプレップのみんな、おめでとうございます。新しい学びや発見、喜びを通して楽しい毎日を提供してくれるプレップの先生チーム、本当にありがとうございます。そして毎日生徒たちの学校生活をサポートしてくださっている保護者の皆様にもお礼を申し上げます。

Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy

We would also like to inform families that the Department of Education has updated the Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy, with implementation beginning this term. This is an important policy designed to ensure that our school community remains safe, respectful, and inclusive for all. School Production

We are thrilled to be preparing for our School Production on Tuesday 26 August! Rehearsals are in full swing, with students and Okano Sensei practising with great energy and enthusiasm. Behind the scenes, our staff and a dedicated group of parent helpers are working tirelessly on costumes, props, programs, and much more. Please note that this year’s ticket system will differ slightly due to changes in regulations at the Kingston Arts Centre. While we have no control over these changes, we appreciate your understanding. This year, seats will be allocated, and guests are expected to sit in the seats for which they have purchased tickets. Tickets will be sold in two stages. In the first stage, each family will be able to purchase two tickets. In the second stage, remaining seats will be released for general sale. We ask all families to respect these arrangements to ensure a smooth and enjoyable evening for everyone. More information will be shared very soon. ８月２６日に予定されているスクールプロダクションへ向けてのリハーサルが本格化してきております。プロダクションの総指揮をとる岡野先生は毎日子供達とのリハーサルに大忙しです。その傍で、コスチューム、小道具、プログラムの作成などで保護者ボランティアの方々、スタッフ一同力を合わせて準備を進めています。さて、今年度のキングストンアーツセンターの座席は、全席指定席となりますので、あらかじめご了承ください。これは、キングストンアーツセンター側の規制の変更によるもので、本校の方針ではないことも合わせてご理解いただけますと幸いです。チケットの販売は、２つのステージに分けて行われます。第一段階では各ご家庭につき２枚までの購入が可能となります。この期間終了後、全ての残りの座席に対するチケットのご購入が可能となります。この第二段階では、ご購入いただけるチケット枚数に限りはございません。プロダクションにお越しいただく全てのゲストの方々に気持ち良くご鑑賞いただけるよう、皆様のご理解・ご協力をお願い致します。

Snapshots from our classrooms

When I visited one of our Year 1/2 classrooms, the students were learning to read time on analogue clocks with one of our casual relief teachers. Each student had a small clock and was setting the long and short hands to match the time given by their teacher. As they continued practicing this concept, the students became increasingly independent. It was a fantastic start to their maths learning in Term 3! １・２年生の教室では、アナログ時計を使って時間を読む勉強をしていました。それぞれの生徒が小さな時計を使って先生が言った時間を設定していました。練習を重ねることで正確に時間を表せるようになってきていました。３学期の学習のいいスタートを切ることができたようです。

I also visited a Year 3/4 classroom where students were reading Yirra and Her Deadly Dog, Demon with Miss Pyrcz. During my visit, the students were discussing new vocabulary—exploring the meanings of words and how to use them in sentences. They had opportunities to talk about the new words with a partner and apply their understanding of what had been explicitly taught during the session.　パーチ先生の教室では、生徒たちがYirra and Her Deadly Dog, Demonの本を読んでいました。生徒たちは新しい単語を学び、その意味、どのように文章の中で使うか、などの学習をしていました。隣に座っている生徒と新しい単語について話し合い、実際に使って文を作る練習などをしていました。
