Honouring Others While Putting Jesus First – NAIDOC Week Reflections
Throughout NAIDOC Week, our students engaged in meaningful activities that honoured Aboriginal culture and reflected our heart for putting Jesus first in all things.
In the Secondary years, students wrote encouraging postcards to Primary students, focusing on the idea of handing down a legacy of faith and strength. These messages of hope and encouragement were a powerful way to connect across year levels.
Primary students contributed to a whole-school Prayer Chain. Each student wrote or drew a prayer for others, with a special focus on future generations and Indigenous Communities. The chains were displayed throughout the playground, and students participated in a reflective prayer walk around them.
In Year 4 Maths, students explored mapping activities that incorporated Aboriginal art symbols, combining mathematical skills with cultural appreciation.
Meanwhile, 1D and 5M read Country by Aunty Fay Muir and discussed the meaning of reconciliation. Inspired by the story, they created a large mural of handprints, symbolising unity and connection.
Preschool students also took part in NAIDOC-related activities, engaging in creative experiences that celebrated culture and community.
We’re grateful for a week filled with learning, reflection, and creativity – all pointing back to our desire to honour others while keeping Jesus at the centre.
