Music

Our term in music has begun at an exciting pace! All the classes are making great music and taking in new information, focusing on melody and texture.
Our F/1/2s now know all the solfa notes, and we have just begun looking at a melody using the minor scale (beginning with La). We played it on the Glockenspiels!
Our 3/4 class have also been working on major scale melodies, but they are gearing up to add in some texture to compliment the melody, this is homophony.
The 5/6s have been given an overview of three types of music;
- Monophony: a single melody line
- Homophony: there are two parts to the music but they work together, a melody with accompaniment, this is used in a standard pop song
- Polyphony: poly = many, and phony = sounds, a classic example of polyphonic music would be a round.
Pictured below are some 'melody maps.' Our students responded creatively to significant melodies that were given as monophony and then with their homophonic accompaniment.
