Auslan Learning Update
This Week in Auslan…
Grade 3 & 4 – Days of the Week
Grade 3 and 4 students have been learning how to recognise, sign and order the Days of the Week in Auslan. They have been practising their new vocabulary through a range of fun and engaging activities.
Students created their own Days of the Week Rubik’s Cube, making sure the days were in the correct order. They then used their cubes as a resource while playing an Auslan version of Snakes & Ladders, where they had to sign the Days of the Week as they played.
Students also put their signing skills into action by signing along to The Addams Family “Days of the Week” song and consolidating their learning through fun and interactive Kahoot and Blooket activities.
Grade 5 – All About Me
Grade 5 students have been busy finishing their “All About Me” presentations. Students created their own presentations and signed information about themselves, including their name, age, birthday and appearance.
Students really demonstrated their creativity and expressive Auslan skills throughout this task. They should be very proud of themselves for branching outside their comfort zones, challenging themselves and taking their Auslan skills to the next level!
Grade 6 – Asking & Answering Questions
Grade 6 students have been learning all about asking and answering questions in Auslan, including developing an understanding of correct Auslan grammar & sentence structure.
Students have been translating questions and practising their responses through a variety of fun games, including Jenga and Snakes and Ladders – all with an Auslan twist!
A key focus has been learning about the important role that facial expressions play when asking questions in Auslan. Students have been developing their awareness of how facial expressions help communicate meaning and are an essential part of effective Auslan communication.
It has been wonderful to see students building their confidence and putting their Auslan skills into practice!
