Science Week - Next Week

Next week our students will be celebrating National Science Week with a hands-on, whole-school activity that's going to transform our school gardens.

This week students across the school have been making their own seed paper, recycled paper with real flower seeds pressed in before it dries.

During Science Week, classes will head out to plant their seed paper across our different garden beds.  Our Yr 4 students will be planting their seeds near a special tree we are adding to our garden as a tribute to Hunter Tannenberg who sadly lost his battle with illness at the beginning of this year.

With any luck, the coming weeks will see the garden come to life with flowers grown from paper the children made themselves. We can't wait to see what springs up. Keep an eye out for photos in an upcoming newsletter.

Bullying No Way!

Next week is National Bullying No Way Week (17–21 August), and our students are taking part in live sessions designed to give them practical tools for recognising bullying and knowing how to respond.

The lessons have been developed by Kids Helpline counsellors and are tailored to be age-appropriate, with one session for our Prep to Year 2 students and another for Years 3 to 6. Delivered live and aligned to the curriculum, they focus on real strategies our children can use such as how to speak up, how to support a friend, and where to turn for help.

Together, we can help every child at KPS feel safe, respected and included.

Pyjama Day

A big thank you to everyone who rolled out of bed and straight into school last Friday for our Pyjama Day. This was all in support of The Royal Children's Hospital. Thanks to your gold coin donations, we raised $512, every cent of which goes directly to the care and treatment of children and families who need it. We're proud of our SRC for leading this initiative, and grateful to our families for getting behind it so generously.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent/Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families' perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, and to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent/Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026, and all families are invited to participate.

The survey is conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. On Monday 17th August, all families will receive an email with instructions on how to access and complete the survey.

Possible Industrial Action

Families may have seen reports that the Australian Education Union (AEU) has called a further 24-hour stopwork for next Wednesday 19 August.

Since this action was announced, the Victorian Government has made a further offer to AEU members around pay and conditions. Union members are currently voting on this proposal, with the outcome expected to be known on Monday afternoon.

If members vote to accept the offer, the proposed industrial action will be cancelled and school will operate as normal next Wednesday.

If the offer is rejected, however, the 24-hour stopwork will proceed. As with the previous strike action earlier this year, we will communicate as quickly as possible to indicate how this affects KPS.

Collecting Children During the Day

If you need to collect your child early, please notify the office in advance so we can have them ready for you. Schools are busy places, and it can take time to locate students, particularly if they are in specialist classes or other learning areas.

To minimise disruptions, please avoid collections during:

•    Play 1: 10:58 - 11:28

•    Play 2: 1:14 - 1:44

During these times, children may not hear PA announcements, and buildings are locked for safety, making it difficult to collect belongings.  Lunch Time Clubs

At KPS we are providing lots of opportunities for students beyond the classroom to explore and develop their skills and passions through our lunch time clubs below.
