Italian Update – Foundation, Year 1 and Year 5/6!

Ciao A Tutti! (Hello Everyone!)
What a productive Term 2 for our Italian Program!
Our Foundation students have continued to learn about the Italian language and culture via tactile games, songs and movement. Pinocchio the Puppet has been popular! Students have practised how to introduce themselves and express how they feel! They are learning about Pinocchio and his friends and have learnt about parts of the body via ‘Geppetto’s Song’ with actions! Our Foundation students can now also sing the Happy Birthday song in Italiano!
Our Year 1 students have continued to be engaged within the Italian language via role-plays, rhymes, songs and games. They have learnt new words and phrases and have continued to build on their prior knowledge of the Italian language! Students are learning about ‘I giorni della settimana – The days of the week’ by reading a variety of texts and by learning the origins of these words. They learnt a song about days of the week and sing this with lots of gusto! Students were also introduced to ordinal numbers and studied ‘Il Sistema Solare – The Solar System’ where they were introduced to the planets and other space related words.
Our Year 5/6’s are learning about ‘introductions and conversations’ where they are studying systems of language structure. They are learning about macro and micro skills and how the Italian language works alongside the English and other languages! Students have read and studied a variety of texts where they have focused on language structure. They have learnt how to identify verbs, nouns and adjectives and how to convert singular words and phrases to plural by applying a few rules. Students have completed comprehension tasks as well as a few dictation activities. They have been fully engaged in classes. Students will complete the unit by drafting, conferencing and finalising their own written paragraph about themselves. Students have also consolidated their learning by completing units of work from ‘Languages Online - Italian’. Che super stelle and what talent in the 5/6 area!
All classes will conclude the term by evaluating individual progress and the terms work. What a ‘fantastico’ Term 2!
