This Sunday, I am looking  forward to  the Department of Education's Recognition of Service Ceremony, in particular celebrating an extraordinary milestone as we recognises John Mooney’s remarkable service to education in Victoria.

Across an outstanding career spanning six decades, John has made a lasting contribution to public education, leadership and the broader school community. His commitment to students, staff and school improvement reflects the very best of the profession and serves as an inspiration to generations of educators and school leaders. As highlighted in a recent feature by the Star News Group, John’s impact has extended far beyond his own school communities, shaping and influencing education and lives across Victoria.

On behalf of the Australian Principals Federation, we acknowledge and thank John for his dedication, advocacy and outstanding service to education and to the principal class. We look forward to celebrating this well-deserved recognition with him on Sunday.

Victorian Inquiry into Public School Funding

A cross-party parliamentary committee inquiry into public school funding has tabled it’s report on May 12. The inquiry looked into the impact of the Allan Labor Government’s decision to delay raising Victoria’s school funding to 75 per cent of the Schooling Resource Standard until 2031, effectively cutting $2.4 billion from what was previously committed to Victorian government schools, including the State and Commonwealth funding per student in Victorian government schools impacting their education, Victoria’s teaching and school workforce. The APF continues to advocate for full SRS funding for schools to ensure that our Victorian schools remain the top performing in the country and we maintain our place as The Education State.

VRQA  Updated Guidelines feedback

The VRQA have recently posted their updated guidelines to the minimum standards for school registration. The updated guidelines are intended to ease the compliance burden by providing greater clarity.

The updated guidelines:

  • provide more guidance about what compliance looks like
  • explain evidence requirements in plain language
  • make clear when requirements apply only to new school applications.

Please see below link to the VRQA consultation on the updated guidelines to minimum standard for school registration:
