Grade 1

This week, we have been focusing on teamwork and building positive relationships within the classroom. Students have been encouraged to support one another, take turns, and work collaboratively during activities. It has been wonderful to see them communicating, helping their peers, and celebrating each other’s efforts.

In writing, we have been practising our handwriting, with a strong focus on starting our letters on the solid line. Students have been working hard to form their letters correctly and take pride in their work. They have shown great engagement during these sessions and are becoming more confident each day.

Grade 2

In grade 2 we are learning about changes in technology. We have learnt that people use to write and send letters to people they wanted to communicate with. We have been writing letters to someone important, making an envelope & a stamp.

We have also started our new inquisitive topic "light & sound". This week we learnt how we can make different sounds using cardboard/paper, rubber bands & rulers.

We also have been looking at how sound makes vibrations. We put rice on the top of a drum & on top of a bowl covered in plastic. We took turns hitting the drum & the plastic covered bowl to see what movements the rice made.

We found out that the rice on the drum had more controlled movements up & down. The rice on the bowl with plastic bounced off the plastic and was uncontrollable.

We also have been writing a story about a statue based on the book, "the stone lion". Students have created their own story with a "statue" that will help save someone or something. We will be typing these on the laptops.

Grade 3

Grade 3 are really enjoying learning about Australia's First Nations Peoples' histories and contemporary realities. In English, we are researching and learning how to write a factual recount about the history of the Aboriginal flag. In Inquiry, we are listening to differing perspectives, reflecting on and informing our own opinions of Australia/Invasion Day.

Grade 4

Grade 4 Literacy

This term we have been reading a class novel Uncle XBox by Jared Thomas. We have been reading about a boy called Dusty who has to work on saving for his own XBox by doing some jobs for pocket money.

We are exploring the writing genre - Factual Recounts. We have been looking at the structure we need to write within including a catchy title, introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. Students will be learning and writing about some of the key historical events during the period of 1770-1792 including the effects on First Nations Australians.

Grade 5

This week for Catholic Education Week grade 5's have been writing 'Thank you cards' for residents of aged care facilities in Benalla.

The focus for this activity was service to people in our community. The elderly are people that have contributed so much to our community and through our cards we wanted to acknowledge this. This task encouraged the students to think of others and be grateful for their contributions.

Grade 6

Yesterday, Wednesday the 8th of May, 6F visited GoTafe in Wangaratta for a career's morning. They left at 9am and returned at 12pm. Students were exposed to a wide range of activities, tours and presentations about career options provided at GoTafe.

Students enjoyed listening to the process of choosing a career, what courses are available and even had a go at writing their own job application.

Some students stated:

Rifa Patel- 'The best part of the morning was playing the jobs game, where people had to give you clues to guess what job card you had'

Chelsea Mozes- 'The best part of the morning was reflecting on what career I might life to pursue after school and learning how to apply for a job'

The students were all very thankful to receive this opportunity and all had a great morning exploring GoTafe Wangaratta.
